The anthurium bloom period lasts from December to July. But the peculiarity of this perennial is not at all in decorative flowering. His flower is completely nondescript, and if it were not for the bright wide veil of bracts, he would not have had so many admirers among flower growers. But, unfortunately, it is not possible to achieve flowering of this tropical plant on every windowsill. And not every florist knows how to care for a plant after flowering. And having bought or received a pot as a gift, he admires its enchanting appearance only once. What rules should you familiarize yourself with in order for anthurium to continue to please the eye from year to year?
Features and differences of anthuriums
The bract leaf is a kind of landing site that attracts pollinating insects with its bright appearance, and also does not leave indifferent fans of indoor floriculture.
In indoor floriculture, two types of anthuriums are grown - Andre and Scherzer. They differ in the shape of the leaves and flowers.
Anthurium Andre has a heart-shaped leaf plate with a notch at the petiole. And the ear of a flower is straight. Scherzer's anthurium is distinguished by a curl flower, which is called a pig's tail. Although there is a more poetic name - flamingo. And the leaves are lanceolate.
Growing anthurium
The first thing a florist should know about is that anthurium is very difficult to tolerate a transplant. Therefore, it is recommended to grow it immediately in large containers. In addition, the plant grows very quickly, so it can grow out of the pot quickly. And for this reason, it is also advised to immediately choose a larger pot for your flower.
There is one trick to avoid transplanting your plants too often. For this, the base is covered with sphagnum moss. You can even grow a flower in this moss. But if this is not possible, then another soil will do. It should be sufficiently loose, air and water permeable. For example, you can use a substrate for violets.
The earthen mixture is easy to make yourself. To do this, take:
• two pieces of leafy land;
• two parts - peat;
• one part - sod;
• one part of humus soil.
It is also advisable to add a little broken brick, charcoal or sand to this soil mixture. Or the same sphagnum.
Maintenance and care of anthurium
To create optimal conditions for the anthurium, it should be borne in mind that he really likes abundant watering and warmth. Therefore, you need to spray and water often, preferably daily. And take warm boiled water for this. But when spraying, make sure that a lot of water does not fall into the axils of the leaves, otherwise they will begin to rot.
And once a week they arrange a bath day - they generously spray anthurium in the shower. In the summer, water is also poured into the sump. In this way, it is very convenient to keep sphagnum wet if the flower is grown in moss.
Anthurium is a companionable plant. Keeping one pot on a windowsill is a bad decision. Experienced growers advise keeping several plants on the windowsill. Then the optimum humidity will be created and maintained.
But direct sunlight is harmful to him. It is especially dangerous to leave the flower in the sun after spraying. The leaves are very susceptible to sunburn and become stained where water droplets have remained.
During the flowering period, the optimum temperature of the content is + 18 … + 24 ° С. And from July to October, after flowering, there is a dormant period. At this time, it is advisable to lower the temperature to at least + 15 ° C and moderate watering.
In winter, anthurium begins to bloom again. And there comes a very branched period for the grower. It’s not enough to raise the temperature, it’s not a problem in the house and apartment. It is important that there is sufficient moisture. In addition, it is advisable to arrange additional lighting so that daylight hours last at least 11 hours a day. And spraying should be carried out in the morning.
