When leaving a dusty city for a summer residence, pet owners often take a four-legged friend with them. At the same time, the owners of cats are tormented by the question: how and what to feed the cat in the country, what to include in its diet, how should the amount of food change? These and other questions will be dealt with in this article

With the onset of summer, suburban life beckons city dwellers from the hot asphalt and noise. Many townspeople leave for the village or for their favorite summer cottage for the entire summer period. Responsible owners of "four-legged" friends must take them with them. It is important to remember that in a country house you should create comfortable living conditions for your furry family members in advance. Changing the usual home environment of the apartment for living in a country house, the diet of your cat also changes accordingly.

If you go to the country house for a couple of days, then given the independence of the cat and its "domestication", it happens that there is no need to take it with you. Currently, many pets spend all days in apartments, without leaving their walls. When solving a summer cottage issue, keep this fact in mind. When you leave the apartment for one or two days, the pet can be left at home, providing a supply of food in a bowl and water in an accessible place.

Transportation rules

You have made the decision that you are taking your favorite "fluffy" to the dacha. Consider making sure your cat is comfortable on the road ahead of time. Purchase a dedicated pet carrier. The main rule before setting off on the road with the cat is not to feed it before the trip, otherwise it can be rocked and vomited.

How many times to feed a cat in the country?

Speaking about the diet of a domestic cat, let us recall its behavior in the winter while living in an apartment. Usually in winter cats are less active, spending their evenings curled up in a cozy ball on the couch. In this case, two meals a day with the usual diet is optimal. In the summer, going with you to the dacha, the diet and the daily feed rate change. Your pet leads a more active lifestyle, explores the surroundings, runs, jumps, hunts, spends energy and sleeps less. At the dacha, the cat becomes more independent, as they say "walks by itself." At the same time, she herself decides when to eat food, and when to catch a mouse. As a responsible owner, feed your pet at least twice a day. Sometimes you will even have to feed in between meals, at the request of your pet. It depends on the physical activity of the animal and on a successful hunt.

Just do not expect that the cat will constantly act as a predator and eat pasture and grass. It is better to stock up on a double dose of food so that your little furry "friend" is not forced to go on a diet.

How should the amount of food change?

Due to the increased activity during the summer season, the cat transforms from a pet to an outdoor creature. Having great mobility during this period, the cat loses calories. To replenish the caloric balance, the amount of feed should be increased. Do not change the main diet, let the cat eat the food to which it is accustomed. The pet will get the necessary additional elements by eating small rodents, insects and plants. Be sure to first take water from the city to which your cat is accustomed, transferring to a new one carefully.

Cat's suitcase

When leaving for the country house with the cat, prepare a veterinary first-aid kit. Include in its composition a remedy for fleas and other parasites, a special collar for ticks, a tray, filler, bowls, drinkers. Be sure to give your "fluffy" a remedy for worms as a preventive measure. Even if your cat dines with a mouse or a bird, her body will be protected from infections.
