Rod Calendula

Among the twenty plant species of the genus Calendula (Calendula) there are grasses and shrubs, perennials and annuals. They write that Calendula can be found in the wild, although it's so hard to believe it. After all, the souls of people have long become akin to her red hats, classifying them as home favorite flowers.

The breeders managed to multiply a single row of delicate sunny petals, creating varieties with double flowers that can safely compete with fragrant lush roses. But the simple Russian soul is closer to simple and modest inflorescences created by nature.

Varieties

Unpretentiousness does not negate the love of sunny places and regular moderate watering. The heat and dry soil shock Calendula, and it shows the world very small inflorescences, or even stops blooming altogether. He treats the cold more favorably.

Calendula has no special requirements for soils, but it is recommended to add iron and potassium sulfates to the soil when planting.

Calendula is grown not only in the open field, using it as borders for garden paths, arranging rabatki from the plant, planting in other types of flower beds, but also in containers and flower pots, decorating balconies, terraces and garden gazebos.

When grown in containers, soil is prepared by mixing one part of peat with two parts of sod land, not forgetting to enrich the soil with iron and potassium sulfates.

Reproduction

Unpretentious Calendula reproduces well by self-seeding. But when arranging certain flower beds, seeds are sown in early spring or before winter immediately in open ground. The April sowing of seeds will delight you with sunny flowering in June.

Enemies

Healing Calendula is not always able to protect itself from pests. Microscopic fungi that inhabit the soil can cause powdery mildew on the leaves. Treatment of a plant with a chemical preparation "karatan" can serve as an antidote.

Viruses do not sleep, provoking the disease "mosaic of cucumbers", causing deformation of the leaves and drawing yellow specks on their surface. In such cases, it is necessary to remove the diseased parts of the plant.

Of the pests that can be seen with the naked eye, leafworms, western flea beetles, gluttonous aphids, and lovers of green leaves can be found.
