Everyone has known about the benefits of celery for a very long time. But it cannot be said that the cultivation of this crop on their plots is now popular with summer residents. Celery is rarely found in the beds in the modern world. Many summer residents condition this situation by the fact that root celery requires a lot of care and attention

However, the result that this kind of culture is able to please is really worth the effort. In addition, if you know some of the properties and characteristics of celery, as well as the peculiarities of its cultivation, then the process of planting and care cannot be called extremely difficult. A number of gardeners have developed their own cultivation tactics, due to which they can share a variety of tricks and secrets.

Variety selection

The success and result of growing celery on your own plot has a direct relationship with the initially acquired crop variety. In this situation, a special role is played by climatic conditions emanating from the specific region where it is planned to grow celery. For example, in temperate climates, not all types of celery take root in the soil and weather conditions. A long growing season is exactly the feature of the culture that you need to remember when choosing a variety. In the middle lane, it is best to use varieties such as Monarch, Delicacy, Apple, Parisian giant and some other varieties for planting. They all have their own unique qualities and differences from each other. Many of them can only be planted with ready-made seedlings. If such seeds are sown in open land, then the owner of the plot will not see the expected results. Thus, you need to pay a lot of attention to the preparatory process before planting.

How can you grow celery?

The most popular way to grow celery is through seedlings. Seed germination in such a culture can be different, and planting seeds in a container indoors can significantly increase the abundance of the future harvest. Before the sowing process itself, it is necessary to create additional care for the celery seeds. It consists in soaking the planting material in water with a warm temperature. After that, soaking is continued in a solution of a special preparation stimulating the growth rate of the culture.

You can grow root celery seedlings at home using specialized containers, most often boxes. In this situation, it will be much easier and more convenient to care for the plant. A special soil is placed in the container, prepared from such components as one part of sand and two parts of humus and turf. The layer of such soil should reach a size of four to five centimeters. Since there are essential oils inside the seeds, it is better to use material that was soaked just before the procedure for planting. The top layer is also covered with soil. But here it should be no more than two millimeters. Experienced summer residents recommend covering containers with lids or foil.

Most often, celery seeds germinate after two and a half weeks. But boxes with seedlings in such a situation should be located in a room whose temperature is close to eighteen degrees. This time will show the germination of the seeds. Those materials that will not sprout can be replaced with new ones after two weeks have passed since planting. While seedlings appear, they will need to be thinned out. In the event that the distance between the shoots is sufficient, then they will not be weak and elongated.

In fact, there are no particular difficulties in caring for celery. It is enough to comply with a few rules. For example, the plant should be watered regularly and in a timely manner, since the soil where celery grows must always be moist. So that the culture does not suffer from a lack of oxygen, the room where it grows must be constantly ventilated (every day). In the future, a pick should be carried out, but this period falls at the moment when a pair of leaves has already formed on the seedlings. You need to feed celery with mineral components. The first such procedure should be carried out after two weeks have passed since the pick. It is also required to harden celery seedlings. To do this, you need to take out a container with plants outside when the air temperature is from ten to fifteen degrees Celsius.
