The presence of such valuable medicinal properties should be explained by the content of iridoids, triterpene saponins, mucus, gum, coumarin, resin, carotene, tannins, sugar, ascorbic acid, flavonoids and traces of essential oil in the mullein.
As a sedative that will reduce the activity of the cerebral cortex, it is recommended to take a 10% decoction of flowers with the addition of honey just before bedtime.
A decoction and infusion made from flowers, and sometimes from the leaves of the common mullein, should be used as an emollient, expectorant and enveloping agent for pneumonia and coughing, and besides this, also for various gastrointestinal diseases. It should be noted that this plant will also be included in breast teas.
This plant can also be used as a diuretic. A decoction prepared on the basis of the leaves and roots of the common mullein is recommended to drink for bronchial asthma, shortness of breath, chronic cystitis, gastritis, bronchitis, enterocolitis, colitis, pulmonary tuberculosis, for colds, headaches, rheumatism, diarrhea, liver and spleen diseases.
In addition, the common mullein is present in the composition of the collections, which are used for baths with scrofula and rickets. From a decoction of the leaves of this plant, cooked in milk, it is recommended to make compresses for lichens, ulcers, abscesses and purulent wounds.
This herb's dry herb powder can be used topically to treat non-healing wounds and cracks in the skin. As for the water decoction of the common mullein, such a remedy has been widely used for various nervous disorders, diarrhea and epilepsy. The flowers of this plant are recommended to be brewed as tea and consumed in the presence of edema. With tracheitis, seventy-five grams of dry are taken in one glass of water. This mixture is boiled for four to five minutes, then cooled and filtered very thoroughly. The resulting healing agent is taken three to four times a day, two tablespoons. To achieve the greatest efficiency when taking such a remedy, you should strictly observe all the norms for its preparation, and also follow all the rules for its reception: in this case, a positive result will be noticeable rather quickly.
