In the previous article, we reviewed brief information about ground cover and began a more detailed study of species and varieties, fully considered one of the most beautiful ground cover perennials - subulate phlox. In this article, I want to continue the topic of ground cover perennials

Yaskolka

I love this ground cover perennial very much. It blooms very profusely and in May the area planted with chickweed looks like a sea in foam, especially when a light breeze is blowing. The plant is completely unpretentious, does not require special care and pleases the eye first with flowering, then with greenery. The plant is not tall, no more than 20 centimeters in height, it grows very quickly. Blooms all May with numerous white flowers.

Yaskolka is completely undemanding to the soil, but at the same time prefers well-lit places, try to take this into account when choosing a place for a future flower bed. You can plant this ground cover plant even on windy slopes, she is not afraid of the wind due to her small stature, but the sun on her site must be mandatory!

Yaskolka belongs to the fastest growing ground cover, one bush of a small plant in diameter can reach 70-80 centimeters! Therefore, if you do not want the shrapnel to fill your entire site, then limit it either with stones or special restraints, or periodically remove unnecessary bushes.

Before planting a plant in the ground, it is advisable to apply organic fertilizers or compost with humus. If the soil is heavy, add sand. Dig the soil to a depth of 25-30 centimeters. After a few days, plants can be planted. Planting is done with bushes or seeds.

Some sources have information that the chickweed should be covered with spruce branches for the winter so that it does not freeze out. I winters well without any shelters, despite the fact that in winter there are periods with air temperatures up to minus 25 degrees. Therefore, it is up to you to shelter or not, since the chickweed is winter-hardy and survives the winter perfectly.

Carnation herb

This plant belongs to the Clove species. The lifespan of one plant is up to 6 years. The bush consists of many branches up to 40-45 centimeters long. The leaves of this plant are in the form of small shoots with one peduncle located on them. The flowering period of the herb is about one and a half months.

Grass can be grown by seeds or seedlings. But growing from seeds is a rather troublesome method, since with dense sowing, germination is very low and sprouted shoots can simply die from a lack of nutrients or from the neighborhood with weeds. Therefore, it is easier not to bother and buy ready-made seedlings, or sow seeds in peat tablets one by one. You can also increase the amount of planting material by cutting, dividing the bush and layering.

Plants are planted in open ground when the weather is warm, which guarantees no frost. The distance between adjacent bushes should be up to 60 centimeters.

Carnation of herb carnation is very simple, like most ground cover plants: it is sometimes necessary to apply organic fertilizers to the soil and water as the soil dries. The herb does not like excessive moisture and can disappear if it is watered too often and abundantly, so do not allow water to stagnate in the area with this plant. Better to let the soil dry slightly than too wet.

It is not necessary to cover the carnation for the winter, the plant is frost-resistant and calmly tolerates winter frosts without harming itself. If the frosts are very strong in winter, and you are afraid of the freezing of the flower bed, you can lightly cover the flower bed with spruce branches after the onset of cold weather.
