Each summer resident tries to choose the most suitable coating material for his favorite greenhouses, and the use of ordinary plastic film for these purposes is becoming less and less profitable and expedient. In order to make your life much easier, it doesn't hurt to get to know more about such material as reinforced plastic film - its cost is very acceptable, and the performance characteristics of this summer cottage assistant can please even the most inveterate skeptic
What is so good about such a film?
Reinforced film is a relatively new material for covering greenhouses, but its popularity among summer residents continues to grow from year to year. In its production, additives are used that at times increase the resistance of such a film to the merciless and rather harsh effects of ultraviolet radiation. For five years and even more, the molecular bonds in this product remain unchanged - the film not only does not lose its elasticity, but also does not change its ability to resist various loads. In addition, the reinforcement prevents the film from resizing even under the influence of prolonged static loads. And this, in turn, helps to avoid extremely undesirable sagging, which significantly accelerates the process of breaking the integrity of the coating used.
The reinforced film can also boast of increased resistance to various mechanical damage - even some sharp instruments cannot break its integrity!
A little about manufacturing technology
Any reinforced film includes three independent layers: the upper and lower layers of this material are made of polyethylene (both low pressure and high pressure), and the middle layer is a strong plastic mesh. At the same time, manufacturers add special additives to polyethylene, which significantly increase the ability to resist the effects of ultraviolet radiation. As for the reinforcing mesh, it can be made from a wide variety of materials: polypropylene, polyethylene monofilament or high-pressure polyethylene.
If simple polyethylene films are usually classified by thickness, then their reinforced counterparts are classified solely by density. And the average mesh size of the reinforcing mesh is usually in the range of ten to twenty millimeters.
By the way, some types of reinforced film can last more than ten years! And it is allowed to use such material in a temperature range from minus forty to plus ninety degrees!
Flaws
It should be noted that the drawbacks of the reinforced film are quite few, but, nevertheless, they still exist. Compared to a simple film, such a coating transmits slightly less light - its light transmittance is reduced by about 2 - 3%. However, this is not such a drawback, because an ordinary layer of dust affects the ability to transmit light to a much greater extent.
One more point - the reinforced film is always heavier than its usual counterpart. This is due to the fact that it consists of three layers, which inevitably increase its specific weight. But even this drawback is more of a conditional one.
And the last drawback of almost any reinforced film is its rather high cost - the price of such a progressive material is many times higher than the price of simple polyethylene. True, in this case, there are also advantages, because the difference in price is gradually leveled not only by a significant increase in the service life, but also by increasing the reliability of such a coating, which makes it possible to significantly reduce the volume of annual repair work.
