Bay leaves are very often used in the preparation of culinary dishes. This seasoning is especially often used in soups and stews. Laurels grow in our country on the territory of the Krasnodar Territory, more precisely, in its southwestern part. The plant is very fond of warmth and comfort. Therefore, very often the noble laurel is grown in indoor conditions. In the process of cultural development, it is required to pay attention to its needs, because the laurel requires a lot of care and attention
Fresh laurel leaves are characterized by a pleasant greenish tint. In the interior, this quality is very much appreciated, because the room looks fresh and attractive. Also, the leaves exude a pleasant aroma, purify the air in the room. They can do all this due to the fact that the structure of the plate allows them to release special substances - phytoncides. They prevent the growth of fungi and bacteria.
In terms of cultivation, laurel is a completely unpretentious and non-capricious plant. Unlike the same lemon, laurel can be kept in room conditions at almost any humidity and air temperature. A small amount of lighting and placement in the northern zone of the room will also not create problems or inconveniences for the development and growth of laurel. At the same time, if the place turns out to be bright enough, the culture itself will grow more abundantly, lush and thicker.
The use of bay leaves in cooking is common. However, if you grow a laurel tree at home, then the leaves will be suitable for adding to food only after two years. It is at this age that the plant is characterized by a bright and spicy aroma. A competent approach to laurel cultivation will provide the grower with an excellent harvest and a large supply of seasoning.
How to grow laurel from seeds?
It is more expedient and safer to grow laurel with seeds. Then the development will constantly occur in the same conditions, which will avoid stress and discomfort for the plant. Planting material for growing laurel can be purchased at flower shops. The best sowing material will be seeds that were collected not so long ago. However, they must be refrigerated prior to planting. Thanks to this manipulation, the planting material will give higher germination rates. It is worth noting the thick skin of the seeds of the laurel plant. Therefore, it is necessary to simplify the task of their formation for the sprouts. To do this, the seeds should be soaked in clean water for several days. To stimulate growth and activate the development of the seed, it is necessary to use a special solution. A good option would be the use of "Epin".
Before sowing seeds in the ground, you need to prepare a fertile substrate. It is worth remembering that sand should be placed in the upper layer of a container with a thickness of two to three centimeters. But it must be calcined or steamed. In such a land, laurel seeds will develop much better and faster. Most often, the seeds are in the form of peas. They need to be planted in the soil to a depth of one centimeter, and then covered with plastic wrap. Thus, moisture will remain inside the soil for much longer. The seed germination period is long. Sometimes the process takes up to several months. But with a little effort and patience, the first shoots will hatch soon.
It is best to plant a laurel plant in the winter season. It is better to choose the months of January or February for this. In this case, even if a situation occurs that the seeds are late or half a year will pass before they germinate, they will still develop in a season when the temperature and illumination are most favorable. After that, it will be possible to remove the film from the boxes or containers and wait for the first green leaves to start erupting. As soon as two leaves are observed on the sprouts, they can be seated in separate containers. There is also a way to grow laurel from cuttings.
Each gardener chooses the method that suits him. Then, with minimal effort, it will be possible to acquire a high-quality harvest of bay leaves.
