The splendor of shades and an abundance of bright splashes are a characteristic feature of the autumn season. A variety of late flowers, ripe fruits, beautiful berries, branches encourage creativity. I would like to keep this wonderful picture and admire the autumnal charm. Autumn compositions of dried flowers will be a wonderful decoration of the house. How do you make them? What is needed for this? Here are some tips to help you create beauty with your own hands
What are dried flowers
When dried, many plants change their appearance, lose their natural color, the green color changes to gray or brown. There is a large group of plants that are great for drying. As a result, color and shape remain unchanged. In addition, there are methods used by experienced florists to extend the "life" of the composition, to preserve the pristine appearance of cut inflorescences.
Regular hairspray and glycerin help to use the dried material unchanged for a long time. For example, any inflorescences, reeds, burdock thorns that have opened, cotton bolls, spikelets of cereals.
The material for dried flowers can be collected in the field, city park, in the clearings and in the copse. Connoisseurs of beauty grow up in the country. Kermek is considered the most popular plant among dried flowers. It is famous for its interesting panicle inflorescences, shades of blue, lilac and pink. Also, florists actively use ammobium basket flowers, which resemble chamomile with their white petals and yellow center. A good design is created by the immortelle, which has small spherical flowers collected in bright inflorescences.
Colorfully complements any composition with bright and rich clover-like homphrene. Dried solutions often include grandiose horse sorrel, all kinds of cereals, tree branches, shrubs with seed pods, bunches of berries, as well as any flowers that retained their bud shape when dried.
How to dry plants properly
The drying process technology includes several techniques and rules. For example, cutting flowers, in order to maintain their shape for a long time, should be done at a certain time. For this, buds are selected that have not reached the full flowering phase; it is better to choose half-loose buds. The harvesting procedure is always carried out in clear, dry weather.
The drying process is organized in a shaded, warm room with sufficient air circulation. For these purposes, an attic or a place under a high canopy roof, gazebo is usually used. The cut plants are collected in a loose bunch, pulled tightly with twine, twine, garden wire and hung.
Flowers will not change the shape of their heads if they are hung upside down. During drying, the stems begin to decrease in diameter, therefore, periodic dressing-tightening of such bouquets is necessary. It is not recommended to collect a large number of plants in one bunch, this will increase the drying period, complicate airing, as a result, the color will change or, even worse, mold will appear. Well-prepared dried flowers will retain their natural color and shape for a very long time: the compositions will stand for 4-5 years.
Working with dried flowers
The work begins with choosing a location for which your composition will be intended. Based on this, it is possible to determine the volume, height, correlate the harmony of the color scheme. Further, the basis, the appearance of the source material and the approximate layout are thought out.
Before starting work with dried flowers, you need to strengthen the pedicel. For this, the stem of the selected plants is cut off and replaced with flexible wire, which will eliminate the fragility and fragility of the natural fiber. In the future, the wire will allow you to change the slope, turn, move in search of a better position. When the creative arrangement is complete, using a can of dye, you can slightly "revive" faded foliage, tint some buds. The main thing is not to overdo it and try to keep it natural and natural.
The final stage consists of fixing the assembled bouquet with wire or nylon thread. Then everything is neatly placed in a vase so that the stems are not visible. If this does not work out, then a satin ribbon or green or yellow corrugated paper is used for decoration.
The compositions look good in wicker stands, baskets, as well as in any containers of an unusual shape: jugs, glass flasks, cups. It is better to use vases made of tree bark, ceramics, papier-mâché. It is recommended to sprinkle the finished product with varnish and install in a place where there will be no midday sun.
Dried compositions have one more method of production - this is the method of "ready-made bouquet", which means creating a composition from freshly cut flowers, with further drying in a suspended state. Of course, fresh flowers are arranged faster, only in this case it is difficult to predict how they will look later. In this case, it will no longer be possible to change anything: neither tint, nor change the damaged stem, flower, leaf.
