Plants living in the wild have healing powers. Those wild plants, to which a person has had a hand, having ennobled their external data, in order to decorate their gardens with them, as a rule, lose their healing properties, spending nutritional forces to maintain beauty. But, in any generally accepted order, there are some exceptions. Such an exception in the world of plants is the Stock-rose, the man-made varieties of which with dark burgundy flowers are used for the manufacture of healing preparations
Place of Birth
Stock-rose is one of the communities of the plant world, which botanists call "genus". The number of plant species in this community is close to eighty, and the genus itself is included by botanists in the Malvaceae family.
It is believed that in the wild, Stock-rose was born on the lands of the Balkan Peninsula, and from there, a man, admired by a straight and strong stem, long-peaked picturesque leaves and large, spectacular flowers, helped the plant to settle throughout Europe and Russian lands in Asia. If in the wild the Stock-rose is a perennial, then in man-made gardens it has turned into a two to three year old plant.
Stock-rose - Malva's "sister"
Plants of the same Malvaceae family, Stock-rose (Lat. Alcea) and Malva (Lat. Malva), or Mallow, look very similar to each other. However, the stem of the Stock Rose is much higher and stronger, because it has to hold onto the larger leaves and flowers. In addition, the flowers in a number of species of the genus are double, and therefore heavier. One plant can have more than a hundred flowers, nestled in the axils of the leaves. Simple Malve cannot be kept in such abundance. The surface of the stem is protected from the vicissitudes of fate by dense pubescence.
Nature and tireless breeders have painted flower petals in a wide variety of shades, from white to almost black, providing gardeners with a rich choice to suit everyone's taste. But, species with flowers, the petals of which have a dark burgundy or lilac-black color, have healing abilities.
Summer garden "herringbone"
Unlike many early spring plants, the flowering period of which is very short, the Stock-rose pleases the gardener throughout the summer season, from June to September. Shirokokolokolchatye flowers begin the baton of flowering from the lower axils of leaves, gradually rising up a strong stem, like Christmas tree lights, running up in mischievous dotted lines to the top of an elegant tree. The variety of colors of flower petals allows you to form surprisingly bright and colorful garden compositions. And powerful and branched bushes can serve as decorative walls covering a rickety fence, outbuildings or a compost heap.
Stock-rose, planted along the fence, feels especially at ease. After all, the plant prefers sunny places. This is the most traditional place for all plants of the Malvaceae family, since the mid-fifteenth century, when people began to cultivate them.
The stem-rose behaves well when cut. Such flowers are able to delight the recipient of the bouquet for a long time, who is observing the gradual blooming of flower buds.
Healing abilities
The healing power of the Stock Rose lies in the fully blossoming flowers as well as the roots of the plant. To collect flowers, take the morning hours, waiting for the dew to melt from the plants. The flowers are cut along with the green cup, choosing those that are fully blooming, but not yet touched by wilting. Since the potions are usually made from dried flowers, the harvested flowers are dried using traditional methods. The roots of the Stock Rose are used for medicinal purposes less often than flowers.
Infusions and tea are prepared from the flowers. Infusions treat bronchitis, gastritis, rinse a sore throat. Tea helps soothe coughs, get rid of hoarseness, relieve asthma attacks, stop diarrhea, and help with kidney and stomach diseases.
