Kashmir cypress (Latin Cupressus cashmeriana) - this species of the genus Cypress (Latin Cupressus), belonging to the Cypress family (Latin Cupressaceae), is considered by fans to be the most beautiful and graceful not only among all Cypress trees, but, perhaps, among the entire coniferous kingdom of our planet. Description
The Kashmir cypress is an amazingly beautiful tree with less stiff branches compared to other types of cypress. Its wide conical crown is more like the branches of the Weeping Willow hanging in a bow, and some adult specimens resemble the stately figure of the Buddha. No wonder the Kashmir cypress is very popular among Buddhists, who decorate the territories of their temples and monasteries with such trees. Unlike the Willow, which adorns the shores of reservoirs only in the warm season and sheds foliage in the winter, the Kashmir cypress is a real natural miracle all 12 months of the year.
In favorable conditions, the Kashmiri cypress grows very quickly in the first 10 years, reaching a height of 6 meters. Further growth slows down as Cypresses live long. By the age of 70, a tree can be 25 meters high and continue to grow up to 45 meters, in rare cases, more than 45 meters. Recently there was information that a tree was found, the height of which is 95 meters. But nerds are waiting for the measurement to be verified.
The unusual shape of the crown of the Kashmir cypress is complemented by the amazingly beautiful blue-green color of its scaly fragrant foliage. Young trees up to 5 years of age have soft needle-like leaves with a length of 0.3 to 0.8 cm.
Ovate seed cones up to 2, 1 cm long and up to 1, 9 cm wide, dark green in color. As they mature, which lasts up to 24 months from the date of pollination, the buds acquire a dark brown color. When ripe, the protective scales, the number of which varies from 8 to 12 pieces, open to release the seeds.
Usage
Kashmir cypress is a very popular ornamental tree, not only in its native region, but throughout the world, where the climate is favorable for it. It can be seen in both private gardens and public parks.
It looks amazing in single planting and is also used as an evergreen screen or barrier in landscaping.
