Long-term growth in one place, certain conditions of detention, require the use of a special technique for planting tree-like peonies. The choice of location, the formation of bushes and other techniques are of decisive importance. How to prolong the life of your favorites?
Living conditions
Photophilous peonies love open sunny places, protected from the wind. In light partial shade, the inflorescences do not crumble longer, remain bright.
They do not tolerate damp, swampy areas with a close location of groundwater. The level of the water-pressure layer is higher than 50 cm, it implies the construction of drainage ditches, the device of high ridges.
They can grow on any type of soil. They work better on loams with a slightly alkaline reaction.
Soil preparation
The whole further life of tree peonies depends on the correct preparation of the soil and planting. Acidic soils require the introduction of a sufficient amount of a neutralizing component: ash, limestone flour, slaked lime.
Poor soils are enriched with nutrients: humus, sod, leafy soil, peat.
Landing sites are prepared in advance in mid-July, allowing the newly filled soil to settle. A hole is dug with a diameter and depth of 70 cm. At lower rates, the development of a powerful root system is delayed, flowering, and the growth of the aerial part are suspended.
A drainage layer of 25-30 cm from broken brick, gravel or coarse sand is poured onto the bottom. Fall asleep with a nutrient mixture from the humus part with garden soil, 150 g of superphosphate or 300 g of bone meal, 150 g of potassium sulfate. On soils with high natural fertility, the fertilizer rate is reduced by 3 times. On acidic loams, clay soils, add 150 g of slaked lime, crushed to a fine fraction. The basic dressing allows the plants to receive adequate nutrition for several years.
The upper layer is filled with the garden soil left over from the excavation without fertilizers. The clay base is mixed with sifted river sand, and 1.5 buckets of clay are added to the sandy base.
Timing
The successful survival of the starting material depends on the correctly selected planting dates. For the Middle Lane, they adhere to the interval from mid-August to early October. Late planting causes long root wound healing. The bush is sick, slowly recovering in a new place.
As an exception, division of plants is allowed in early spring, after the soil has thawed. Such peonies require more careful care in the summer.
Landing
Carefully dig up the prepared bushes. They loosen the soil in the pits. A small hill is poured. Place the plant on the top of the hill, straighten the roots. Watered thoroughly with water. Fall asleep with prepared soil. The root collar is placed at ground level. For peonies, shallow and deep plantings are equally harmful.
Gently compact the soil around the shoots. Squeeze with hands, removing all voids. Spill with water. When shrinking, add the substrate to the desired level.
Bushes grow strongly over time, so the distance between them is left within 1.5 meters.
Bush formation
When the buds open, the frozen, weakened stems are removed. The branches are shortened to living places. For lush flowering, use the technique of pruning the upper 1/3 of the shoot.
The second step is to remove 30% of the buds to create large inflorescences. In autumn or early spring, as a rejuvenation of the bushes, some of the old branches are cut off at ground level.
The correct system for preparing the planting site, nutritious soil allows the tree peony to develop normally for many years. Every year the bushes become more luxuriant, the flowering is more abundant. We will get acquainted with the method of care in the next article.

Tree Peony. Pests
The pest complex on tree-like peonies has a small number. It is necessary to pay attention to your favorites throughout the season in order not to miss the invasion of "competitors" on the plantation. Tree Peony. Part 1 "Through The Ages"
Peony (lat.Paeonia) is a popular flower culture, a perennial herbaceous and deciduous (tree-like peonies) plant with a powerful spindle-shaped root tuber. Gardeners value peonies for their lush foliage, early flowering, aroma, and even for ornamental fruits (in some species). Speaking specifically about tree peonies, their variety is striking and surprising: from hollow flowers with seven petals to huge fragrant balls 20 centimeters in diameter and 500 grams in weight
