It is worth noting that this plant is quite resistant to drought, while beets do not need particularly fertile soil. Only at the initial stage is the plant's increased need for moisture observed. At the same time, excessive moisture in the soil can lead to the fact that the root crops will have a rather unpleasant taste.

Before planting beets, attention should be paid to soil preparation. In the fall, it is necessary to dig up the soil and add three kilograms of superphosphate and two more kilograms of potassium sulfate to it, which can be replaced with ash. In the spring, the soil should be dug shallowly.

Beets should be sown around mid-May. This plant is demanding on light, but at the same time the plant can grow well on saline soils. As for the optimal soil temperature, this will be the eleven degrees mark. It is worth noting that root crops can tolerate temperatures up to minus a couple of degrees. For plant growth, the optimum temperature will be 15-23 degrees.

Beets should not be grown in acidic soil, heavy and waterlogged. Otherwise, you will definitely not be able to get a good harvest. Beets need sufficient light, but if the lighting is insufficient, then the plants will not only stretch out, but also form a medium-sized root crop. It should be noted that in no case should a huge amount of mineral fertilizers be applied to the soil, especially nitrogen fertilizers. In this case, the use of humus becomes the best solution.

Sown at the right time, the beets will sprout by early June. It is very important to wash the seedlings when watering. Thinning will become the main grooming method during this time. It is very important that the distance between shoots should be at least a centimeter or even two. The next thinning should be done at the end of July. In this case, the distance should be up to ten centimeters. Excessive distances between root crops are unacceptable, otherwise the plant will ultimately turn out to be tasteless. It should be noted that beets should be watered regularly only during the period of root crop formation.

You can also sow beets in summer, in which case the plant can be stored all year round. Spring sowing is focused on the summer harvest. In summer, do not sow the plant later than mid-July. Seedlings must be planted when they are at least one month old.

Beets need regular weeding and loosening of row spacings. This plant should be watered only if dry weather comes. Root crops should be harvested in late autumn before the onset of frost occurs. Root crops should be cleared of soil and leaves should be cut off. In this case, damage to the heads is unacceptable, otherwise such root crops are not able to survive for a long time.

It should be noted that very often gardeners are faced with such a rather dangerous disease as phomosis or zonal spotting. An insufficient amount of boron contributes to the appearance of this disease. The disease can be guessed by the presence of brownish or yellowish spots on the surface of the lower leaves, the shape of which will become concentric. Black dots appear over time. If this disease progresses, then the affected leaves and shoots will die off first. Dry rot will develop in the middle of the beet root itself and this happens in a fairly short time.

The cause of this disease will be prolonged fog and rain, as well as abundant dew and high humidity. To combat this disease, a solution of borax should be introduced into the soil. When you are going to start storing the crop, you will need to treat the roots with special solutions.
