Ammania graceful (lat. Ammannia gracilis) - an aquarium plant from the Derbennikovye family. He also has another name - giant ammania.
Description
Ammania graceful is endowed with luxurious bright stems, painted in light pink or reddish tones and reaching about 1, 1 cm in diameter. Its fancy leaves can reach two centimeters wide and twelve in length. The edges of the leaves of Ammania graceful are usually even, and the leaves themselves also always lie flat, almost never bending. As for their color, it is due to several different factors: depending on the conditions provided to the plant, as well as on the quality of lighting, the color can vary from light pinkish to deep purple tones.
The better the conditions for keeping this aquatic inhabitant, the more saturated shades her leaves will be able to boast. By the way, supplements from various microelements will help her acquire a purple color. True, all other conditions of detention in this case, too, must be observed.
Usage
Ammania graceful is widely used as an aquarium plant and is great for background decoration in aquariums. And its very solid dimensions allow it to become a wonderful decoration even for those aquariums, the volume of which exceeds two hundred liters. This is one of the most spectacular representatives of the richest and incredibly colorful aquarium flora. Its extraordinary color contrasts beautifully with not only the lush green underwater vegetation, but also with the pretty reddish underwater inhabitants.
Growing and caring
In order for Ammania graceful to grow well and quickly, it is important not to be too lazy to create all the conditions necessary for this. The most suitable pH level for this is considered to be 7, 2 - if this indicator is higher, then the plant may begin to gradually degrade. As for the temperature of the water, it should be in the range from twenty-two to twenty-eight degrees and under no pretext should not fall below fifteen degrees.
Ammania graceful is very light-requiring - insufficiently powerful lighting can lead to the loss of its lower leaves, and all the other leaves will look rather painful and pale. That is why it will not hurt to organize an elegant additional lighting coming from above - for this purpose, it is recommended to purchase a lamp with a power of 25 to 40 watts.
If you plan to grow Ammania graceful in street ponds, it is better to give preference to small ponds equipped with a sandy and rather loose substrate (the best soil is gravel or sand enriched with iron and all kinds of nutrients). An elegant beauty is placed in these ponds when the weather is warm (this usually occurs in late spring). The containers are placed in reservoirs in such a way that the water above the graceful ammonia remains from five to fifty centimeters. Wetlands are also suitable for its cultivation. And with the arrival of autumn, all containers are transferred to the premises and immersed in aquariums there.
In general, Ammania is graceful and very unpretentious - it is able to survive even in not particularly favorable conditions. True, she will never refuse good feeding - additives from various nutrient compounds (and especially from iron) will always only benefit her.
The reproduction of Ammania graceful occurs by layering - the stems separated from this water beauty are transplanted to places prepared in advance. As a rule, lateral shoots are cut off from the main trunk to obtain cuttings. However, this plant can also reproduce by seeds.
Since Ammania graceful is capable of growing quite strongly, it is best of all, if it is possible to "settle" it in large aquariums.
