Graceful Anubias (lat. Anubias gracilis) Is an aquatic plant belonging to the Aroid family.

Description

Anubias graceful is an aquatic plant endowed with powerful creeping rhizomes, the thickness of which can reach one and a half centimeters. The length of the succulent leaf petioles of this plant can reach sixty centimeters, and the petioles themselves are securely fixed under the leaf blades at a distance of about one and a half centimeters. Green whole-edged leathery leaves, characterized by a triangular shape, rounded near the bases and slightly pointed closer to the tips. They grow in length up to forty centimeters, and in width - up to twenty.

The peduncles of this attractive aquatic plant grow up to fifteen centimeters in length, and its cute cover leaves reaching three centimeters in length are endowed with the ability to effectively unfold and open quite wide. The cobs, which grow up to three centimeters in length, include up to eight stamens fused together. All of them are densely covered with graceful flowers. And you can admire the flowering of the graceful Anubias from February to May.

Where grows

In nature, the graceful Anubias can be seen in the reservoirs of Guinea or Sierra Leone - there he tries to lead a partially underwater lifestyle. And it always grows in a moisture-saturated atmosphere, mainly along the banks of streams, lakes and rivers, which often leave their own shores during the rainy seasons.

Usage

Anubias graceful is an excellent plant for decorating aquariums, noticeably enlivening their design and making their design much more original and richer. True, due to its very impressive size, this plant will be appropriate only for very large aquariums. It will look especially good in the background.

Growing and caring

It is best to grow this plant either in large aquariums or in very spacious paludariums. The second option will be much more preferable, since under the water surface of the aquariums, the graceful Anubias will actively develop for a relatively short time.

A plant moved from the ground to the aquarium needs a fairly long acclimatization - sometimes it can take up to several months.

It is recommended to select a mixture of sand and earth as a soil. It is not forbidden to add beech foliage humus or even clay to such mixtures. However, sometimes this plant does very well in hydroponics too.

When planting anubias graceful in the ground, it is important to ensure that its creeping and very thick rhizomes remain on the surface and under no pretext are accidentally buried. It is only necessary to dig in the roots extending from such rhizomes. If you ignore this recommendation, the rhizomes will rot at lightning speed.

Anubias graceful is rather unpretentious to the aquatic environment, therefore, the indicators of water acidity and its hardness can vary quite a lot. However, ideally, you should try to use either soft water or medium hard water - in this case, the plant will grow much faster. The most suitable parameters for its full development are considered to be: temperature - from twenty-two to thirty degrees, pH from 6, 6 to 7, 0 and hardness from five to fifteen degrees.

Anubias the graceful prefers filtered clean water, so a weekly water change is necessary. It will not hurt to provide the aquarium with a powerful filtration system. If this aquatic beauty grows in dirty water, its leaves will gradually be covered with numerous through holes.

Lighting for anubias graceful, if possible, should be scattered, and this aquatic beauty reproduces mainly by dividing rhizomes.
