Ammania graceful, sometimes called giant ammania, is actively used as a wonderful aquarium plant. It is great for aquarium backgrounds. And thanks to its solid size, it will become a great decoration even for those aquariums with a volume of more than two hundred liters. Anyway, this plant is one of the most spectacular representatives of the rich and bizarre aquarium flora. And the beautiful Ammania got its name in honor of the German botanist Paul Ammann

Getting to know the plant

Ammania graceful is endowed with rather bright light pink or reddish stems, reaching a diameter of 1, 1 cm. The bizarre leaves of this underwater inhabitant can reach two centimeters wide and twelve centimeters long. The edges of the leaves are even, and the leaves themselves always lie flat and almost never bend. But their color depends on several factors: depending on the conditions created for the plant, as well as on the lighting, it can vary from light pinkish to deep purple.

The better the conditions for keeping Ammania graceful, the more saturated shades its leaves will be. The addition of various trace elements can help her acquire a purple color, but it is important to observe all other conditions of detention.

How to grow

If you create Ammania graceful with all the necessary conditions, then it will grow well and quickly. The most suitable pH level for it would be 7, 2 - at higher values, it can begin to gradually degrade. The water temperature for growing this beauty should be in the range from 22 to 28 degrees and in no case should it fall below 15 degrees. In addition to everything, Ammania graceful is quite photophilous - with insufficient lighting, it can lose the lower leaves, and all other leaves will look painful and pale. It is best to arrange additional lighting for it, coming from above - a 25 - 40 watt lamp is perfect for this.

If it is planned to grow a beautiful underwater inhabitant in street ponds, then it is advisable to pick up small ponds equipped with a sandy loose substrate (the best soil will be gravel or sand rich in iron and nutrients). Ammania graceful should be placed in such reservoirs when warm weather is established in late spring. Containers with it must be placed in reservoirs so that the water above the plant remains from five centimeters to half a meter. Suitable for growing Ammania graceful and swampy shores. And with the onset of autumn, containers with this plant are transferred to the premises and kept in aquariums.

In general, Ammania is graceful - a very unpretentious plant that can survive even in not particularly favorable conditions. However, she will not refuse good feeding - supplements of various nutrients, including iron, will definitely benefit her.

This beautiful underwater inhabitant reproduces incredibly simply, by layering - a stalk is separated from the plant, which is then transplanted into a pre-prepared place. Usually cuttings are obtained by cutting off the lateral shoots from the main trunk. Ammania graceful can also propagate by seeds.

It is important to take into account that this beauty grows quite a lot, so it is best, if there is such an opportunity, to place it in large aquariums (preferably with a volume of one hundred liters or more). Its stems easily reach half a centimeter thick, the leaves are stretched by about eight centimeters, and the height of the bushes themselves often reaches forty centimeters.

The unusual pinkish-orange color of Ammania graceful will perfectly contrast with both the underwater vegetation of juicy green shades and with the colorful reddish underwater inhabitants.
