Often visiting friends, I saw this picture. Fruit-bearing strawberry bushes are standing, and the formation of new whiskers immediately begins on them. I am sure that most gardeners do the same, getting berries and seedlings at the same time. Without thinking at all that the harvest of both is decreasing. How are high-quality seedlings of garden large-fruited strawberries grown? Why not simultaneously forcing seedlings and collecting marketable products?

If the goal is to get berries, then with the simultaneous cultivation of mustaches, the former become very shallow, their ripening time is delayed. The resulting young bushes will not receive the necessary nutrients from the mother plant, they will develop weak.

For the cultivation of good planting material, separate queen cells are laid. Growing conditions, planting scheme, processing, they are used different from the main plantation.

The optimal period for using such plantings is 3 years. Further, their profitability is sharply reduced due to the loss of quality and the number of whiskers formed.

The planting scheme is square-nested. The spacing in the row and row spacing is the same and amounts to 1 meter. The number of plants is calculated based on the need to obtain planting material. For each variety, the multiplication factor ranges from 3 to 15 whiskers from one original specimen.

The mothers intensively consume nutrients, transferring everything necessary to the "children". Therefore, when laying new plantings, they fill the soil thoroughly.

The beds are prepared in the fall. They dig a hole 0.5 by 0.5 meters, 25 cm deep. Fill it with a mixture of well-rotted manure, sand, garden soil in a ratio of 2: 1: 1. If necessary, add a matchbox of nitroammophoska, a glass of ash and dolomite flour (on acidic soils). Mark the prepared place with low pegs.

During the winter, the earth will settle, it will be well compacted. As soon as a constant positive temperature is established, they begin to plant. They choose the strongest mustache of the first order, early in growth, with a powerful root system. They carefully examine for the presence of diseases and pests.

In the middle of the prepared place, dig a small hole. Spill with a warm solution of potassium permanganate. The plant is planted, spreading the roots, pressing them tightly to the ground. The "heart" remains above the ground level. At first, in the heat, they shade a little.

Watering, feeding are the same as on the main plantation. Peduncles must be removed completely. For pests and diseases, control is stricter, if the goal is set, to get high-quality, healthy planting material. At the first sign, they take drastic measures using biological, agrotechnical and chemical methods of protection. The absence of berries allows the use of drugs throughout the growing season.

Mustache appears in July. The best shoots are considered to be the first order. If it is necessary to quickly propagate a new variety, then additional rosettes of the second order are left as an exception. Further, reproduction is limited by cutting off the appearing processes.

Particular attention is paid to the looseness of the soil around the mother liquor. Strong roots grow on light, breathable substrates. The moisture content of the soil during this period is of great importance. The sooner new outlets begin to feed on their own, the less the mother plant is depleted. The seedlings are strong, healthy, with a well-developed root lobe.

By the end of August, the bushes are ready for transplanting. At this time (if it is planned to leave it in the same place until spring), new sockets are cut from the parent specimen.

After 3 years, the mother plant is laid on a new site.

Ridge planting of strawberries is not practiced. I plant it at the level of the main ground. There were years when severe frosts set in without snow in the fall. Then many mature bushes died. The whiskers in the low-spacing all survived. In the spring, the entire site had to be replanted.
