Liverwort is one of the perennial plants that bloom in the spring. It should be noted that this plant is especially valuable due to its very decorative flowering, which will last for about two weeks.

The flowers of the liverwort are not endowed with any smell, and their diameter will be about two to four centimeters. As for the color, the flowers can be either red and purple, or blue, white, pink and yellowish. It is noteworthy that some varieties of this plant are endowed with double flowers. The height of the bush of this plant can be about twenty centimeters. The most common in culture was the noble liverwort.

Description of the features of the care and cultivation of the liverwort

For the most favorable development of this plant, you will need to select either sunny or slightly shaded areas: for example, among stones or under trees. In the case when the plant grows in the sun, then on especially hot days, the liverwort will need additional shading. With regard to the choice of soils, it is recommended to give preference to well-drained soil, which should be slightly damp, and the reaction of such a soil should be acidic.

As for the choice of dressings, organic fertilizers will be required, which can be peat. Such feeding is necessary for the liverwort when planting or already as mulch after planting a plant. In addition, peat can be replaced with pine needles. Complex mineral fertilizers must be applied in early spring: during this period, this plant grows actively. It should be remembered that only two dressings are enough. Watering the plant requires moderate, and it is important not to allow stagnation of moisture in any case. For the winter season, planting should be mulched with peat or leaf humus. Weeding of this plant should be performed if necessary.

Reproduction of the liverwort

Reproduction of this plant occurs by dividing the rhizome or by dividing the bush. As for the division of the rhizome, these measures should be taken in the middle of the summer period, when the plant becomes dormant. For this method of reproduction, segments of rhizomes with two or three buds are needed, which are rooted in open ground. Before planting, the soil should be prepared: for this you need to add peat and dig it. After the plant is planted, it will need to be well watered.

The division of the bush should be done every three to four years: in July or in August. Delenki must be planted directly to a permanent place, while the distance between new plantings should be about twenty-five centimeters. After that, the planting is watered, and the soil is also mulched.

It should be noted that reproduction by means of self-seeding is also permissible, and sowing of seeds is rarely used by gardeners. Such a small popularity of seed propagation is due to the fact that when choosing this method, the plant will bloom only three years after sowing.

It is noteworthy that sometimes this plant can also be affected by slugs and aphids. Among other things, it is also important to remember that all parts of this plant are poisonous. For this reason, great care should be taken when handling the liverwort. As for the compatibility of this plant, the liverwort will look great with spring flowers: for example, with snowdrops, crocuses, scylla and proleskaya. Very often this plant is also used for alpine slides, and it is also grown near paths.
