Adromischus (lat. Adromischus) - an ornamental succulent plant belonging to the Tolstyankovye family. The name of this plant is based on two Greek words: hadros and mischos - translated into Russian, this means "thick-stemmed".
Description
Adromishus is a short (on average, its height is three to five centimeters) succulent plant, endowed with straight, long and very strong peduncles. Its short recumbent stems are quite densely covered with airy roots of reddish shades, and its juicy leaves almost always have a fancy variegated color, in addition, sometimes the leaves of this plant are pubescent. As for the shape of the leaves, it, as a rule, can be either triangular or round.
Spike-shaped inflorescences of adromischus are formed by five-petal flowers growing together into narrow tubes. And the flowers of this plant are usually pink or white. In Moscow conditions, even when planted in winter gardens, Adromishus blooms extremely rarely, only in a truly sunny summer, and at home it is even less likely to achieve its flowering.
Where grows
Under natural conditions, adromishus is most often found in Namibia and South Africa.
Usage
Adromischus is often used as an ornamental plant - it is able to make almost any interior more original! Also, this plant is ideal for planting in winter gardens.
Growing and caring
Adromishus is good because it is very unpretentious, extremely easy to care for and is extremely rarely affected by pests. It grows rather slowly, therefore, in order for the adromischus to develop fully, it is important to ensure that it is planted in a nutritious and well-permeable soil mixture without stagnant moisture. Perfect for growing this handsome and completely devoid of organic matter mineral substrate. And the pots for growing this succulent are better to take not too large.
Throughout the growing season, watering of Adromischus should be regular, and in winter, it is limited to only meager watering. Ideally, water it only after the substrate is completely dry. The adromishus is not afraid of overdrying, but excessive waterlogging can easily provoke its death. In addition, during the period of active growth, this plant must provide maximum illumination - the fact is that in some varieties of Adromischus, a bizarre speckled contrast pattern can only appear during exposure to bright sun. As for the temperature regime, this green pet will feel best at temperatures from twenty to thirty-five degrees, and he prefers to spend the winter at ten to fifteen degrees. But frosts, even if they are very short, the handsome Adromishus will not survive.
Adromischus is very partial to fresh air and ventilation - of course, only in hot summer. In winter, it is definitely not worth ventilating it, and it is not recommended to place it in a draft throughout the year.
Succulents are fertilized very rarely, feeding them with mineral fertilizers taken in low concentrations. You can even not fertilize at all - this will in no way affect the growth quality of the adromischus.
Young plants should be replanted every year, while older plants should be replanted a little less often. It is important to take into account that after transplanting, the adromischus is not watered for several days.
This unusual succulent propagates both by seeds and leaves - as it is more convenient for anyone.
