Peristotum (lat. Pennisetum) - an incredibly spectacular decorative leafy plant from the Cereals family. The second name of the plant is pennisetum.

Description

The pinnacle is a perennial (only occasionally it can be an annual) plant, the height of its erect stems is in the range from fifteen to one hundred and thirty centimeters. Moreover, occasionally the height of the pinnacle stems can even reach eight meters! And a lot of narrow decorative leaves of this plant form extremely spectacular thick turf. The width of these linear leaves usually varies from one and a half to six millimeters, although sometimes in some cases their width can reach even eight to thirty millimeters.

The inflorescences of the pinnacle have the appearance of attractive spike-shaped panicles, the flowering of which usually occurs at the end of summer. In this case, the awns of the inflorescences can be both hairy and rough.

Strongly convex pinnacle grains are characterized by either obovate or broadly ellipsoidal. The length of these grains is in the range from two to three and a half millimeters, and on their tops there are peculiar "noses", which are nothing more than the remnants of accreted "columns".

In total, the genus of pinnacle has about one and a half hundred species, while some species of this plant are found exclusively in culture.

Where grows

In natural conditions, pinnate bristles can most often be seen in subtropical and tropical zones (mainly in Africa). However, in warm temperate regions, this plant is also not uncommon! As for the main countries of origin of pinnate bristles, these include Africa, Latin America, Australia and Asia. In addition, some varieties of this handsome man have quite successfully naturalized in the very impressive territories of North America and Europe.

Usage

In culture, the foxtail pinnate is most often grown - this is due to its ability to easily overwinter even in the middle lane, being placed under a reliable shelter from spruce branches or leaves. However, in temperate climates, pinnate bristle is most often grown either as an annual or as a container culture.

Both the grass and the seeds of many varieties of pinnacle are very valuable food for some birds and for a number of animals. And considered an important food crop, African millet, which is very often cultivated in tropical Africa, is also a representative of this genus! The grains of African millet are actively used either in the form of flour or in the form of cereals. They are also used to make starch, alcohol and beer-like drinks. In addition, one of the Indian varieties of pinnacle allows you to get coarse fiber, which is subsequently used for making ropes.

Growing and caring

Cirrus is a rather unpretentious plant, but in no case should the fact that it is thermophilic, moisture-loving and light-loving should be disregarded. All these features must be taken into account when choosing the most suitable place to place a beautiful plant. Ideally, pinnate bristles should be planted in sunny areas that boast fertile and at the same time sufficiently moist soils.

In a sunny and hot summer, the pinnate needs regular watering. As for the reproduction of this plant, annuals are usually propagated by seeds, and perennials - both by seeds and by dividing the bushes (it is usually carried out with the onset of spring).
