A plant that is quite unpretentious to growing conditions with bright graceful flower corollas. Lychnis is tolerant of different air temperatures, drought-resistant, does not impose special requirements on the soil. Easy to clean

Rod Likhnis

More than three dozen species of herbaceous plants are combined into the genus Lychnis or Dawn. Among them are biennial plants and perennials. The botanical name of the genus is based on a Greek word that means "lamp". It is believed that this name was given to the plant for the bright color of the flowers. Although the hemispherical shape of bright red inflorescences strongly resembles a table lamp, turned with its "illuminating" side up.

Weakly branched straight stems of the plant are covered with oblong-lanceolate leaves located opposite. The capitate or corymbose inflorescences, crowning the stem, are collected from white, cream, pink and red flowers.

Varieties

Lychnis chalcedony (Lychnis chalcedonica) is a perennial that grows up to one meter in height. Its stem is covered with oval or lanceolate leaves. In summer, dense inflorescences of red, relatively large (up to 2 cm in diameter) flowers bloom. Garden species have been bred, the color of the flowers of which can be white or pink, and the form is terry.

Lychnis is suitable for different types of flower beds. Borders are arranged from it; planted on flower beds and lawns; dwarf varieties are used in rocky gardens; tall are grown for cutting. Bright colors of flowers are in harmony with many ornamental plants. Likhnis looks beautiful surrounded by daisies, blue bells, in the middle of a curtain of yellow flowers.

Loves sunny places, some species tolerate partial shade. Some species are frost-resistant, some are thermophilic.

They do not make high demands on the soil, but they grow more successfully and bloom more abundantly on fertile and well-drained soils. Withstand drought for two weeks. Perennials in autumn or spring, when the plant has not yet started to grow, are fed with organic fertilizers, embedded in the soil.

Reproduction

You can propagate by sowing seeds, cuttings, perennials - by dividing overgrown bushes. Seeds are sown in March, saplings are planted in open ground in May. With spring sowing of seeds directly into the open ground, flowering can be expected only in the next season.

Enemies

It can attack a spider mite, or it can overcome powdery mildew.
