Deutzia graceful (lat.deutzia gracilis) - a flowering ornamental shrub of the genus Deytsia of the Hortensia family. Natural area - mountainous regions of Japan.
Characteristics of culture
Deutia graceful - deciduous shrub up to 1.5 m high with thin arcuate branches. Leaves are light green, pubescent on the outside with sparse hairs, lanceolate, pointed at the ends, up to 7 cm long. With the onset of autumn, the foliage becomes yellow or golden yellow. The flowers are snow-white, numerous, collected in erect racemose inflorescences, the length of which varies from 5 to 10 cm. Flowering takes place in June-July, the fruits ripen in October. Differs in long flowering.
The graceful action is considered a thermophilic crop; in Russia it is grown mainly in the southern regions. In Moscow and nearby cities, cultivation is not prohibited, but with the condition of providing good shelter for the winter. It is widely used in landscape design in warm countries. Ideal for large rocky gardens, curbs and single lawn plantings. It has quite a few decorative forms, differing in the color of leaves and flowers.
The subtleties of growing
Deytsiya is graceful - the plant is capricious, has a negative attitude towards shade and strong piercing winds. It blooms profusely and actively develops in sunny areas with fertile, loose, neutral, moderately moist soils. Does not accept waterlogged, marshy, strongly acidic and heavy substrates. Cultivation on acidic soils is possible only with preliminary liming. On heavy soils, good drainage is required. Optimal for the action of graceful gently sloping southern or southwestern slopes.
The culture in question is propagated, like all representatives of the Deytsia genus, namely by seeds, cuttings, layering and root suckers. When planting action with graceful seedlings, it is important to observe several nuances. Planting pits should be 40-50 cm deep, drainage is laid on the bottom (sand, pebbles, broken brick if desired), then a small hill is formed, the substrate for which is made up of garden soil and humus with the introduction of nitrophoska (100 g) and wood ash (200 g). The root collar of the seedlings is placed at the level of the soil surface. It is recommended to purchase seedlings only in proven nurseries. Planting is carried out in the spring.
Care
The graceful action is demanding to care for. The soil of the shrubs is regularly loosened and weeded, and the moisture level is also monitored. Waterlogging, as well as drying out of an earthen coma, should not be allowed, this can lead to death. Watering the graceful action is stopped in mid-August. Feeding with slurry monthly, with mineral fertilizers - twice a season (after pruning and at the end of summer).
After flowering, the shrubs are subjected to formative and thinning pruning, giving the plants a rounded shape. Anti-aging pruning is not prohibited. The graceful action does not tolerate frost, so for the winter it is wrapped with insulating materials, for example, spruce branches or lutrasil, and the foot of the bushes is mulched with a thick layer of fallen dry foliage.
Application
The graceful action is very beautiful and original, many gardeners decorate their personal garden / summer cottages with plants. Shrubs look especially good against the background of trees with an openwork crown. The action can be planted in rocky gardens, along garden paths and singly on the lawn. Allies of the graceful action are countless, these are decorative, abundantly flowering shrubs, and flower crops, and even herbs.
