The practical summer resident seeks to provide his family with vegetables. Unfortunately, not all regions have the ideal climate for this. To optimize the conditions for cultivation, structures in the form of greenhouses and shelters for beds help. Everything about planning, choice of shape, selection of material, stages of self-construction

Pros and cons of a greenhouse made of plastic pipes

Such designs have many advantages. Polypropylene pipes are ideal for self-construction. The construction of them will last more than 10 years. Durability is explained by the absence of decay, corrosion, Plastic has an affordable price, does not require priming, painting and other processing.

The covering material does not tear at the points of contact, it adheres tightly and, thus, provides excellent sealing. It can be easily disassembled when using special fasteners and latches. The pipe system ensures the reliability and stability of the structure.

The only drawback is lightness. This is found in high winds and wind conditions, which can lead to swaying and warping. But this drawback is eliminated when using metal rods / fittings in problem areas.

Choosing a place for construction

The location of the greenhouse affects the yield. Although plastic is cheap, it is quite durable material, so your building will serve you for several seasons and it needs to be placed correctly.

The size of the building will also depend on the location. To determine the site, you will need an open space, not shaded by trees and buildings. The north side is irrelevant and can touch the garden and the house. You can choose the option of direct abutment of one plane to any wall.

Which shape of the greenhouse to choose?

The most popular tube greenhouses are arched. Their practicality is due to the ease of construction and cheapness. Limited space sometimes dictates other creative solutions and radical design changes. The foundation of such greenhouses can be of various geometries: rectangle, square, trapezoid, polygon, oval.

In an open place, it is easiest to build a standard gable. If you plan to attach a change house or a house to the wall, then the single-slope model is chosen. The convenience of the tent version is becoming more and more popular, although more material will go, but the usable area will increase. In addition, such greenhouses are leading in terms of light transmission.

Plastic pipes are ideal for mini-greenhouses, they are used to make shelters for beds, using arched and pitched options.

Greenhouse construction

If a drawing was previously drawn up, a calculation was made, material was purchased and a tool was prepared, then you can start right away.

Greenhouse base

We measure the required area, level the ground around the perimeter. The basis will be a wooden beam, which needs to be processed with a plane and covered with a protective impregnation. For the timber, we make a small depression in the ground.

We also lay the joints, fasten them from the inside with iron corners. It is more convenient to use construction brackets, which are hammered from above at the junction. The resulting "foundation" needs to be leveled. If there are gaps under the sagging plane of the timber, put a solid base (broken brick, metal scraps) and sprinkle it with earth.

If a small greenhouse is being made for one bed, then the foundation is not needed. Drive into metal rods or sticks to secure pipes.

Installation of a frame for a greenhouse

The pipes are cut to the required length. To fix them in the ground on the outside of the timber, you need to drive a metal rod in 1 meter increments. Prepared pipes are mounted on the resulting pins, rising by 20-30 cm.

For connection, special plastic elements are used: crosses, couplings, corners. For strength, you can additionally fasten it with self-tapping screws. When the main elements are installed, you can make a window and make a door. The fastest option is a sliding hut type. If it is standard, then a rectangular frame and a hinged door are made on the right side. For mini-constructions, the door is not made - they wind the film on a stick and fasten it above the entrance.

Covering

The film is most often used for covering. To prevent the effect of windage, it is advisable to fix it at the joints with tape and pull the fishing line in several places from above. At the bottom, the film is nailed with slats to the timber.

Polycarbonate does not react to the wind, it is durable, although there will be certain difficulties during installation. For a large greenhouse, it is advisable to put this material on the roof. Reinforced polyvinyl chloride, which has thermal insulation and high transparency, will serve well. You can use Agrotex; when covering a greenhouse, there are no problems with it.

Whichever cover material you choose, you need to take into account that it must be removed for the winter, since the frame may not cope with the load of snow. Therefore, the roof should be easy to dismantle.
