Waldsten spurge is one of the plants of the family called euphorbia, in Latin the name of this plant will sound as follows: Euphorbia waldstenii (Sojac.) Czer. (E. virgata Waldst. Et Kit.). As for the name of the Waldstena milkweed family itself, in Latin it will be like this: Euphorbiaceae Juss.

Description of Waldsten milkweed

The Waldstena spurge is a perennial herb that is glabrous and bluish, and its height ranges between forty and eighty centimeters. The root of such a plant can be both oblique and vertical, it will be many-headed and branched. Stems are present in small numbers, they will be branched, erect and rod-shaped. At the top, such stalks of the Waldsten milkweed are endowed with about five to twenty axillary pedicels, the length of which can reach up to five centimeters. The lower leaves of this plant are cupped, they are stem, can be either sessile or barely pressed, and also linear. The length of such leaves of the Waldsten milkweed is about two to nine centimeters, and the width is two to ten millimeters. The apical peduncles can be from five to fifteen pieces, and their length is about seven to forty-five millimeters, the leaves of the wrapper and the upper stem leaves of this plant are sessile and they are painted in green tones. The leaves of the wrappers of this plant will be yellowish-green, the glass is bell-shaped, its length is about two to two and a half millimeters, and its diameter is approximately one and a half to two millimeters. The three-root of the Waldsten milkweed will be obtuse, its length is three to four millimeters, and the width is four to four and a half millimeters, while the seed of this plant will be broadly ovate and colored in brown-violet tones.

The flowering of the Waldsten milkweed occurs in the period from June to August. Under natural conditions, this plant is found in Central Asia, Belarus, Ukraine, Western Siberia, the European part of Russia, with the exception of only the Karelo-Murmansk region, as well as in the Angara-Sayan region of Eastern Siberia. For growth, this plant prefers garbage places, arable lands, fallow lands, pastures, fields, places near roads, forb steppes, steppe slopes of hills and ravines, forest edges, flood meadows, forest lawns, sandy and calcareous soil. It is noteworthy that this plant is an insecticide.

Description of the medicinal properties of Waldsten milkweed

Waldsten's spurge is endowed with very valuable medicinal properties, while for medicinal purposes it is recommended to use the roots, juice and grass of this plant. Grass includes leaves, flowers, and stems.

The presence of such valuable medicinal properties should be explained by the content of alkaloids in the composition of this plant, while the milky juice of the stems, roots and leaves will contain resin and malic acid. The roots of Waldsten milkweed contain resins and rubber. The herb of this plant contains the flavonoids hyperin and quercetin, while the stems contain resin and rubber, and the seeds contain fatty oil.

Milky juice of Waldsten milkweed is recommended to be used externally for various skin diseases, as well as for the treatment of cancer. A decoction prepared on the basis of the roots of this plant is recommended for use as an emetic, laxative, anthelmintic, diuretic, analgesic, anti-febrile and anticancer agent. It is noteworthy that leaves and young stems are used externally for leishmaniasis and dermatomycosis, calluses and warts, and is also used as a cosmetic.
