Not all growers have country cottages, private houses, so you have to grow your favorite plants in city apartments. Diascea is no exception to the general rule. How to take care of your pet in order to prolong the period of charm with cascades of beautiful bushes?

Accommodation

In room conditions, ampelous forms of diascea are grown. Initially, they grow upward, similar to the bush species. Then they lie down slightly at a height of 25-30 cm. Until the end of the growing season, the growth of the bush continues in a horizontal direction.

For placement, choose solar windows or insulated, glazed loggias. In the summer, you can take the pots out into the open air or keep them on a regular balcony. Sometimes they put the pots in hanging boxes from the side of the street behind the glass.

Landing

At the bottom of the planting tank, holes are drilled to drain excess water, a layer of drainage material 2-3 cm is poured (expanded clay, pebbles, clay shards). Add ready-made loose soil with a low content of nutrients, slightly acidic reaction. In the absence of a purchased substrate, they prepare it independently from garden soil, humus, sand or perlite in a ratio of 2: 1: 1.

They transfer ready-made plants from open ground at the end of summer, trying to less injure the root system. If you wish, you can go through the whole process again from planting seeds to an adult specimen, similar to preparing seedlings for outdoor cultivation.

The seed method is discussed in the article… (link) ……….

The transplanted bushes are abundantly watered. At first, they are kept in a separate window from other plants to prevent the spread of diseases, pests that can get into the room with new pets from the street. If necessary, the "new settlers" are treated with appropriate chemicals. The rates and doses are indicated on the package.

Care conditions

At first, the transplanted bushes are shaded from direct sunlight, allowing the plants to restore the nutritional functions of the damaged root system. Water sparingly, as the top layer of the earth dries up.

In the spring-summer period, they are fed once a month with a complex fertilizer for indoor flowers, reducing the concentration of the solution by half. Fertilizers on an organic basis (infusion of manure, nettle) are not suitable for diascea. They lead to excessive stretching of the shoots, a reduction in the formation of buds.

They are removed as the inflorescence dries up, allowing new "butterflies" to bloom. This technology allows you to maintain a neat appearance of "new settlers".

With a significant reduction in peduncles, when the first wave ends, the stems are shortened by half the length. The plants are fed with Kemiroi Lux. They give the opportunity to gain new strength for re-flowering, to build up fresh green mass, to lay a lot of buds.

Winter content

With a reduction in daylight hours, in the evening hours, cloudy days arrange additional lighting. Plants are periodically sprayed from a spray bottle, arranging a light shower, with the heating devices turned on.

Increase air humidity by pouring water into trays filled with expanded clay. The bottom of the pot should not touch the liquid. Otherwise, the root system will rot.

The ambient temperature is lowered to 20-22 degrees by throwing thick blankets over the batteries.

Diseases, pests

Diascea has good resistance to fungal diseases. With improper care (stagnation of water in the pot, excessive waterlogging of the soil), root and stem rot appear.

Control measures are:

1. Treatment with fungicides.

2. Reducing watering.

3. Spreading ash on the surface.

4. Drying the earthen coma.

5. Subsequently, the replacement of pure water with a weak solution of potassium permanganate as a prophylactic agent.

These methods help to quickly cope with diseases.

There are practically no pests at home. On the street, snails and naked slugs are the main harmful factors. They find shelter among the drooping stems of diascea, making their nests.

It is enough to raise the bent shoots, allowing the sun's rays to penetrate into the dense crown of the bushes. In a few days, insects will leave their homes, looking for a new shelter.

Simple care of diascea at home, beautiful, long flowering makes it an attractive crop for growing on apartment windows. A minimum of expended energy, turn into cascades of pink-salmon "butterflies" hovering above the bushes.
