The list of mandatory autumn activities includes the preparation of the greenhouse. Such work is considered an investment in a new crop. For detailed actions that cannot be postponed until spring, read this article
We fight fungal diseases
After removing plant residues from the greenhouse, you should not think that nothing else needs to be done. Competent actions are required to destroy the eggs / larvae of insects, to neutralize fungi and bacterial infections. Otherwise, the new season will bring problems when growing a healthy crop. Processing is required, it is done in several ways.
Replacement of soil
An effective but time consuming action - replacing the soil in greenhouse beds. The technique consists in removing the top layer (10-20 cm) and adding new soil to this place. Some vegetable growers refuse this due to heavy physical exertion and spill the earth with boiling water, although this only partially solves the problem.
Treatment with fungicidal substances
Modern drugs are the best option. Usually use "Fitosporin-M", and also use a 10% solution of copper sulfate, Bordeaux liquid, smoke sulfur bombs. If we consider checkers, then the method is considered multifunctional, not expensive, however, extreme and unsafe for humans. It is possible to fumigate the greenhouse with proper observance of working conditions and instructions.
Using special solutions for disinfection of the greenhouse, it is required to shed not only the earth. The entire structure is necessarily wetted, including the inner surfaces of walls, roofs, aisles, and racks. Do not forget to process plant supports, equipment that you use in the greenhouse. When processing, it is better to use a sprayer.
An important point: all biological products, including Fitosporin, work only in warm weather. If the temperature regime has indicators below +10, you need to abandon the planned actions, since the active substances do not work at low temperatures.
Working with soil
Autumn is a good time to beautify the greenhouse: to remove pests and increase fertility. How to fertilize?
Use of organic matter, green manure and microorganisms in the greenhouse
EM-preparations, which are enriched with effective microorganisms, help to solve this problem in a complex way. Siderat plants help to prepare the soil well. This technique requires time for germination and growth, and this is 1-2 months. The measure to improve the soil consists in cutting off the seedlings and laying the resulting green mass on the garden bed. The layer is arranged quite thick (5-10 cm), then peat, organic matter (humus, compost, manure) are placed on it. The introduction involves 1-2 buckets per sq. meter.
If there is a margin of time for growing green manure, then you need to know which of them you need to choose. For cucumbers, plant peas, rapeseed, mustard, vetch. For tomatoes, mustard, beans, lupine and any legumes will be beneficial. Pepper is well influenced by alfalfa, lupine, oats, peas. Vegetation of all the listed species is 2-5 months. Many people choose mustard, as this plant is fast-growing, with abundant growth. It will take only a month to get the green mustard mass.
After creating the layer, the bed is spilled with any biological product: "Baikal EM-1", "Shining-1", "Vostok EM". For a 10-liter watering can, you need to take half a glass of the substance. Sufficient consumption of this volume will be for 2-3 m2. This procedure raises not only the fertility of the earth, but also has a depressing effect on bacterial and fungal pathogens. In addition, the process of microorganisms' work is started, the decomposition of green manure and introduced organic matter is activated. The described method is popular in organic farming.
Mineral supplement
A quick way to improve the quality of the earth is the introduction of minerals, the dosage is calculated according to the instructions. For autumn application, you will need a little nitrogen and potassium-phosphorus mixtures. The process is pretty straightforward. With the first digging, weeds are removed (it is more convenient to work with a pitchfork), then granular / powder fertilizer is evenly scattered over the finished surface.
The next shoveling is done in the surface layer 7-10 cm thick. In conclusion, the fight against viral pathogens, fungi and insect larvae is carried out. To do this, you need to spill with the same solution that was used to spray the greenhouse. The greenhouse is now ready.
