Spring soil preparation

After the winter cold, the soil in the garden needs special care. The quality and quantity of the future harvest largely depends on its correct preparation. Each type of soil has its own characteristics, which are important to consider. How to properly prepare the land for spring plantings?

Where the sun is

Before planting vegetables, you must carefully prepare the soil in the spring. For these purposes, well-heated areas that are closed from the icy wind are suitable. Moreover, the land should not be saline and waterlogged. During cold weather, it is better to prefer small, south-facing slopes. Lowlands and hollows are not suitable in this case. The garden should be in the sun for at least 12 hours a day, therefore, before making the beds, be sure to decide on the sunniest places.

Necessary "pi ash"

If the ground on your site has unevenness, then you can cut off the bumps and fill in the holes, and then fertilize the soil well. Remember that nothing sensible will grow on clay or sand! The only thing that can somehow help such a land is a shock amount of organic fertilizers. It is worth noting that neutral or slightly acidic soils with a pH of 6-7 are the best for plants. For vegetables, soil with a pH of 8 or more is not suitable. If you have such soil, then first plaster it and rinse it. To reduce acidity in a greenhouse, it is good to irrigate the ground with sulfuric or acetic acid, diluted in proportions - 0, 1-0, 5 l / m2 per 10 l of water.

Piece of chalk

In acidic soil conditions, liming is good. In this case, you will need fluff lime, crushed chalk or ash in an amount of 100 g to 1 kg / m2. In order to reduce the salinity of areas for vegetables, be sure to level the soil, fertilize it with organic fertilizers, sand or sawdust, and dig drainage ditches. For an excellent result, you need a site in which the soil is saturated with organic matter and permeated with plant roots.

Competent digging

Dig up the soil so that the bottom layer does not come to the surface, because it gives less yield than the top one.

It is good to use a plow with a soil deepener to work the area. During processing, you need to add more manure. If you are cultivating the soil by hand, then throw the top layer of the soil forward a little, as if turning it over, and loosen it in the formed niche by adding manure. At the next step, the niche with manure will be covered with another portion of the soil. Make sure that no small roots, debris and larvae of harmful insects remain in the soil.

Caring ahead

For the best result, it is better to dig up the garden even before the winter cold. Do not loosen the soil with a rake, so that the soil will perfectly hold drifts and melted snow. When spring comes, when the earth dries up, it is time to break up the soil crust and level the earth. From time to time, loosen the soil with a rake to avoid weeds.

Useful loosening

If you need to fertilize the soil just before planting, then dig the ground again 15-18 cm deep and loosen it with a rake. Stretch the twine and make paths, thereby forming beds 80-120 cm wide. If your area is often flooded, then make high beds. To do this, take the earth from the paths and throw it on top.

Mineral complementary foods

If you want an excellent harvest, we recommend fertilizing the soil with mineral fertilizers. They are very easy to use as they are concentrated. The most important thing is to observe the correct proportions, then you will enjoy a rich harvest without much effort. In order not to make a mistake with the dosage, carefully read the instructions on the package. Remember that granular and nitrogen fertilizers should be applied to the soil in the spring before you start digging it. Thanks to these actions, all nutrients will be close to the plant roots. It is necessary to lay the granules to a depth of about 20 cm.
