Dwarf iris has recently become an incredibly popular plant. Low purple irises can be seen not only in gardens, but also in many city parks. However, there are other varieties of this plant, colored orange, brown, sky blue, yellow, red and white. Nevertheless, irises of these colors are not yet popular enough.

The height of dwarf irises ranges from twenty to forty centimeters. The flowering of dwarf irises begins in May, at this time the irises of other species are just putting forward their first flower stalks.

It is important to remember that with regard to dwarf irises, they are still considered quite rare and therefore their cost turns out to be quite high.

Growing

It should be noted that dwarf irises are not particularly picky in care and cultivation. However, in order for these plants to delight you with their amazing beauty, you should still follow certain rules for their cultivation.

It is very important to choose the place where you will plant the irises. These plants need the rays of the sun, and this period should ideally be about twelve hours. Dwarf irises can be planted both in separate flower beds and on paths. It is important to remember that this plant should be placed in the foreground. It is noteworthy that even after flowering, dwarf irises retain their attractive appearance and their foliage is able to perfectly decorate any garden with flowers.

Of course, the choice of flowers for the flower bed is also important, because sometimes separately beautiful flowers do not combine with each other at all. For example, dark purple flowers do not go well with dark brown ones, and if there is a lighter one next to a dark iris, but in the same tone, then such a flower bed will be very attractive. In general, white irises can be supplemented with irises of literally any color. Also, professionals advise the following combinations: dark blue, purple and blue, as well as burgundy and yellow.

As for the two-tone irises, here you can follow the same rule and place dark and lighter flowers next to each other, but not forgetting to observe the tonalities.

Plants should be located at a distance of about thirty to forty centimeters from each other: after all, with proper cultivation and optimal weather conditions, irises grow very actively, filling a large space.

As for the choice of soil, here, in principle, these plants are not fundamental. Even in a damp area, these irises can develop well, but in this case they need to be raised to the beds or high flower beds. Before planting, you can remove a layer of soil to clay, fill in a layer of sawdust, sometimes you can also add hay, if any. This method will not only allow you to raise the bed, but also become a reliable barrier to cold weather. After that, you can add humus or manure, peat and sand to the ground. This soil composition is considered optimal for dwarf irises, however, they can also grow quite well on other soils.

To prepare plants for the winter season, nitrogen fertilizing should be excluded, starting from the second half of summer. In addition, it is also recommended to periodically add ash to the soil, which contains useful trace elements and not a single gram of nitrogen.

Reproduction of dwarf irises can be carried out by dividing the rhizomes. The optimal time for this will be two weeks after the irises have finished blooming. Delenki can be transplanted separately into containers, and planted in the ground only when they have a powerful root system.

For the winter period, dwarf irises can be covered. It is also important to get rid of weeds in a timely manner; such a preventive measure will avoid numerous problems when growing irises.
