The peduncles have two or three lateral branches, and as for the flowers, they can even contain up to eight of them. Peduncles are quite branched, and their flowering can last up to one and a half months. The flowering of multicolored iris is very abundant. The leaves will be wide: up to two to five centimeters, in fact it all depends on the power of the plant itself.
Growing and caring
Actually, such a plant as multicolored iris is considered quite unpretentious to care for. These irises grow quite quickly, they are very resistant to life, and also have a high degree of resistance to frost. Reproduction and transplantation of this plant is possible during the entire period of its growing season. When planting, it is recommended to deepen the rhizomes by about five to ten centimeters. However, in many species, over time, the rhizome can crawl out to the surface. With particularly heavy frosts and in the absence of a snow cover, the rhizomes of multi-colored irises can freeze. In the event that you expect to receive a very limited number of planting material, then the entire bush can not be dug out at all. In this case, a piece of rhizome equipped with one or more fans will be sufficient. When the weather is sufficiently humid, it is not recommended to water the newly planted plants. Irises will grow very quickly and after two to four years these flowers will grow very abundantly and will delight you with their attractive appearance.
Multicolored irises grow well on completely different soils and with varying degrees of acidity. However, such plants thrive best on dense, humus-rich soils and should be capable of retaining moisture well. Both the soil and the air must be fairly humid for such plants to grow properly. Iris multicolored perfectly tolerates spring flooding by melt water. Plants should be planted in open places where the sun's rays often fall.
By the end of October, the foliage of the multicolored iris should be shortened by ten to fifteen centimeters. However, it is permissible to rob this foliage in April or even May. On the foliage of this plant, it is literally impossible to notice signs of any disease, so such cut foliage can be left between the bushes, where it will play the role of mulch.
