Bather loves wet and sunny places. That is why, at the end of May, when the soil is still full of moisture from the snow that escaped underground, it covers the forest glades and meadows with a bright yellow-orange carpet. Insects and butterflies flock to look at its beauty, tireless bees work, collecting pollen and nectar from flowers. People are tearing up flowers in armfuls, not thinking about tomorrow. Gardeners who want to protect the bright flower from disappearing try to plant the Bather in their garden, rejoicing and enjoying her love of life and beauty
What's in your name
Somehow it was not customary for us to call plants by Latin names assigned to them by Karl Linnaeus or other, as a rule, European scientists who studied plants. That is why the people invented their names. In different areas, the same plant had its own name, which was considered suitable for him.
The Bathing Lady's Latin name, Trollius, is probably not known to many. Moreover, this plant has many other names. I prefer Siberian names - Zharki or Ogonyok. When these bright flowers cover the meadows with a solid carpet, it is as if thousands of small lights light up in nature, not causing fires, but delighting with their beauty.
The plant is called a bather in Russia for its addiction to wet places.
Rod Swimsuit
About three dozen species of perennial herbaceous plants are united by this genus. Their underground branchy short rhizome tolerates Siberian frosts well, holding tightly to the soil with numerous adventitious roots.
Finger-dissected leaves hold on to the stem with long petioles, forming a basal rosette. Erect, thin, but strong, the stem in its upper part is covered with sessile leaves, the size of which is inferior to the size of rosette leaves. The dissection of the leaves turns them into a separate masterpiece of nature.
The stem ends with a large single flower of bright orange or sunny yellow color.
Varieties
•
Asian swimsuit (Trollius asiaticus) - the most pronounced representative of the genus with long-petiolate basal leaves and sessile higher on the stem. Compact bushes up to 80 cm high. Flowers are often bright orange, large (up to 7 cm in diameter), sometimes light yellow. Bred terry forms.
•
Chinese bathing suit (Trollius chinensis) - a tall plant, up to 120 cm high. It blooms in the height of summer with orange-yellow, more expanded flowers.
•
European swimsuit (Trollius europaeus) is a less vigorous bush 50-60 cm high. Pale yellow globular large flowers bloom in late spring and delight gardeners throughout the summer.
•
Dwarf swimsuit (Trollius pumilus) - does not exceed 30 cm in height. The leaves are small and wrinkled. The first two summer months bloom with golden yellow flowers up to 4 cm in diameter.
•
Cultural bathing suit (Trollius x cultorum) - this name combines hybrids from the first three species.
Growing
The bather is winter-hardy and moisture-loving. Loves fertile, loose, moist soils.
The bather loves the sun, but can grow in partial shade.
Planting is carried out in autumn or spring, fertilizing the soil with organic matter. During the summer, they are fed a couple of times with mineral fertilizer
To stimulate spring flowering, the plant is cut to the root in the fall.
Reproduction
Propagated in autumn or spring by sowing seeds, or dividing the bushes.
Diseases and pests
A lover of wet soil is a rather resistant plant that does not succumb to pests and diseases. But the long drought slows down its growth.
