What kind of attack is the cabbage?

With each new spring day, the sun warms up more and more, and the vegetables in the garden grow higher and higher. But at the same time, harmful insects and other parasites are also activated. Cabbage has made especially many such enemies. Flies and moths, aphids and keels, whites and scoops - they all strive to feast on juicy leaves, stems and even plant roots, threatening us to lose our well-deserved harvest. How to protect your garden from these uninvited guests?

When the fly swatter doesn't help …

In the spring, during the flowering of trees, the cabbage fly rages with might and main, followed by the summer fly. The insects themselves are not so terrible as the eggs laid by them. These white grains can be seen on the root collar, stem, and even clumps of dirt near cabbages. And when the larvae already appear, if time does not get rid of them, it can be very difficult to save the cabbage.

To prevent the fly from liking your site, you can use various deterrents. To this end, around the cabbage, the beds are sprinkled with a mixture of naphthalene or tobacco dust with ash or sand.

Another effective measure to prevent the death of larvae is the high hilling of cabbage. Thanks to this technique, a more powerful root system with a large number of additional roots develops. Thus, the cabbage grows more robust and has greater resistance to pests.

If eggs and larvae nevertheless appeared on the site earlier than preventive actions were taken, the control measures will be more radical. When eggs are visible on the surface of the soil, such soil must be raked out, and a new one must be poured in its place. Watering with karbofos solution twice with an interval of 5-7 days helps against fly larvae.

Dangerous beauty

Of course, the graceful flapping of the wings of butterflies cannot but rejoice, but the predecessors of this beauty - caterpillars - cause a lot of trouble for gardeners. The caterpillars of the white woman turn the cabbage leaf into a sieve, and the scoop gnaws the vegetable right up to the head of cabbage.

For prevention purposes, it is advisable to periodically inspect the underside of the leaves for the presence of unwanted guests' eggs there. They should be destroyed immediately upon discovery.

When caterpillars appear, they are harvested by hand. Of course, this is not the most pleasant method and you can instead try to fight them with decoctions and solutions. Caterpillars do not like infusion of tomato tops. To prepare this you will need:

• 3, 5 kg of tomato tops;

• 40 g of soap;

• 10 liters of water.

The green mass (stems, leaves, stepsons) is crushed, poured with boiling water and allowed to brew for 2 days. After that, it is ground into a homogeneous mass and filtered. The infusion turns out to be very concentrated and it is additionally diluted with water in a ratio of 1: 5, and grated soap is also added to it.

Instead of tomato tops, delphinium is also used. The stems and leaves (1 kg), as well as the roots of the flower (100 g) are used. Unlike tomatoes, this raw material is poured with cold water. After two days, filter and add soap - the infusion is ready to use.

In addition, spraying with a solution of karbofos, potassium chloride, sodium chloride is used. These procedures are best done in the morning or evening.

Oh, this harmful aphid …

Aphid cabbage delivers a lot of troubles. They fight this scourge with infusions of tobacco, ash. To do this, 200 g of raw materials are poured with 1 liter of hot water per day. When the infusion is ready, filter it and add 50 g of soap crushed on a grater. It will not be enough to sprinkle the plants on top. You need to get used to doing this in such a way that the pest-destructive mixture also falls on the underside of the cabbage leaves.
