Hydrotrich

Gidrotrich, or gidrotrich, in natural conditions lives in the reservoirs of distant Madagascar. The translation of such a funny name - "water hair" sounds very interesting. This unique plant does well in aquariums. A systematic water change and thorough cleaning of the soil, along with maintaining biological balance in aquariums, will certainly become the key to the successful development and good growth of an amazing hydrotrica

Getting to know the plant

Hydrotrihe is an extraordinary plant, endowed with rather long stems. It is entirely covered with needle-like leaves of pleasant light green shades forming numerous whorls. But the root system of the bizarre hydrotrica, alas, is extremely poorly developed. By the way, this plant vaguely resembles horsetail.

On average, the height of a hydrotriche is about half a meter, and a representative of the plant world cultivated in an aquarium environment is able to reach a height of even seventy centimeters.

The hydrotrica branches rather weakly, but this plant blooms perfectly - its surface flowers cannot but delight the eye.

How to grow

Hydrotriha can be safely grown both in warm vessels and in tropical ones. The most suitable temperature regime for this thermophilic inhabitant of waters will be about twenty-two degrees. The aquatic beauty grows very evenly throughout the season.

Regarding the water for placement in hydrotriches, we can say that its reaction should be in the neutral range, and the hardness should be very low. In highly alkaline and too hard water, an unusual plant can not only decrease in size, but even stop growing altogether. The water in the aquarium must be clean - in dirty water, hydrotriches can easily die. Cleanliness is considered the key to its excellent development. About one third of the water needs to be changed weekly. It is also very important to prevent the extremely undesirable fouling of the hydrotrica with a variety of algae. The most acceptable option is to place useful cleaners in the aquariums, which can be both mollusks and various fish. These unique rescuers will regularly eat up the countless algae that accumulate on the hydrotric.

The soil in which it is planned to plant the hydrotrich should be weakly or moderately silted. Despite the fact that "water hair" most of the nutrients are extracted from the water, the soil, if possible, should also be nutritious, since floating forms of hydrotrichia do not always develop equally well. Also, the selected soil should be small - large particles can easily damage very delicate and underdeveloped plant roots. As for dressings, they are not at all necessary for the successful development of hydrotriches.

It is important to provide good lighting for a graceful plant. The best light in this case is diffused light. Also, the hydrotrica should, if possible, be protected from direct sunlight. However, shading of hydrotriches by other aquatic plants should not be allowed. Artificial lighting is organized for him using lamps of the LB category, which can be combined with simple incandescent lamps. However, the latter are still recommended to be used exclusively in the form of backlighting. The length of daylight hours for such an extraordinary aquatic plant should be at least twelve hours.

Specimens of "water hair" grown far from natural conditions reproduce in most cases by cuttings of stems. Sometimes the separated cuttings are immediately planted in the ground, deepening the lower whorls and not waiting for the roots to form, and sometimes they are left to float on the water surface until roots begin to appear on them.

It is recommended to plant hydrotriches in the central part of the aquariums, and do this in separate groups, each of which includes five to six bushes.
