In the spring, as, indeed, throughout the entire warm season, not only people but also their pets suffer from tick bites. Especially, they love to attack dogs. How to protect the "smaller brothers" from this scourge?
Ticks are tiny and dangerous pests that like to settle in the fur of pets. Ticks are activated in spring and summer. They feed on the blood of animals, causing them a lot of trouble. Ticks, traveling on a four-legged pet, can easily move into the house, climb under carpets and furniture, on curtains, and bed linen. Thus, the risk of getting their bites increases among the owners of animals.
If the dog has enlarged lymph nodes, the joints are swollen and sore, the pet has lost its appetite, it has a fever, the skin of the animal is visibly irritated, then most likely it was bitten by a tick. Ticks carry various diseases that are dangerous for both the pet and its owners. Therefore, an infected dog must be urgently shown to the veterinarian. There are preventive measures and ways to treat dogs for tick bites:
1. Removing ticks manually
If you find a tick on your dog's skin, you can try to remove it manually. For this you need:
* Put on gloves and take tweezers, prepare a bowl of alcohol. Use a fine-toothed comb to examine the dog's skin. Pull out the tick with tweezers and throw it in alcohol. Wipe the bite site with alcohol. Wash your hands, comb and tweezers.
When removing a tick with tweezers, you need to grab its head as close to the skin as possible, not twist it, but pull it out entirely.
2. Removal with dishwashing liquid
In dishwashing liquid, small insects, including mites, can suffocate, gradually breaking away from the animal's skin. Necessary:
* Pour liquid soap into a bowl. Apply it with a cotton swab to the pet's body in places where ticks accumulate and leave it there for 15 minutes. Then bathe the dog.
* Pour hot water into a bowl, dissolve 1-2 tablespoons of liquid soap. Dip the comb in the solution and comb the dog's coat thoroughly.
3. Using apple cider vinegar
* Pour equal amounts of water and vinegar into a spray bottle, adding a couple of drops of lavender oil. Stir well. Then spray the solution onto the dog's body, being careful not to get the liquid into the eyes, ears and nose of the pet. After that, comb the coat, and after a while bathe the dog.
* Add a spoonful of unfiltered apple cider vinegar (natural only) to your pet's food or drinking water daily.
4. Application of tea tree oil
Tea tree oil has medicinal antiseptic properties to help get rid of mites. This remedy will save you from infections that can develop at the site of the bite.
* Add a few drops of tea tree oil to your dog's shampoo and wash it 2-3 times a week.
* With warm water in a spray bottle, add 5-6 drops of tea tree oil and spray the solution onto the dog's fur.
5. Application of lemon
Lemon juice contains acid that can help rid your dog of ticks.
* Squeeze the juice from the lemon onto the tick-affected areas, and after 10-15 minutes wash the pet well.
* Cut 1-2 lemons into thin slices and dip in a saucepan with hot water. boil and leave overnight. Then strain the solution and pour it into a spray bottle, from which treat the dog behind the ears, around the head, near the tail, in the armpits. Comb through the coat thoroughly.
6. Use of salt
The salt is hygroscopic. It is a non-toxic product that will help fight mites by attracting moisture.
* Mix 1/2 teaspoon of salt with the same amount of baking soda, add a cup of vinegar and water, stir everything thoroughly and pour into a spray bottle. Then you need to spray the dog's fur, comb it out thoroughly, and then bathe the animal.
* Clean your home with a mixture of baking soda and salt to effectively remove fleas, ticks and other parasites.
7. The use of vegetable oil
* Mix 2 teaspoons of vegetable oil with 10 drops of essential peppermint or eucalyptus oil and a teaspoon of dishwashing liquid. Apply the composition to the dog's body at the bite sites with a cotton swab for 15 minutes. Brush the coat thoroughly and wash the pet. Do this 2-3 times a week.
8. Special collars
Special collars against fleas and other insects protect dogs from ticks around the head, ears and neck. With the help of your veterinarian, you can find the most suitable collar. In order for the flea-repelling substances to reach all parts of the pet's body, the collar is put on so that it is in good contact with the skin. In this case, the dog should not experience discomfort, itching and other manifestations of an allergic reaction.
9. Some helpful tips
* You can use a powder that repels mites.

* Returning from a walk, you need to thoroughly comb your pet.
