European swimsuit (lat. Trollius europaeus) - a perennial herb of the Kupalnitsa genus (Latin Trollius) of the Buttercup family (Latin Ranunculaceae). The plant is also called by another name - the Common Bathing Lady. The word "ordinary" does not diminish the attractiveness of the appearance of the plant, which has spectacular carved leaves and globular golden-yellow inflorescences that exude a light aroma. The European bather is "ordinary" only in that it is a typical species among the plants of the Kupalnitsa genus, with which other species are compared when describing them. Its habitats are also typical for plants of the genus. These are wet meadows, damp forest edges and forest glades of Europe. The Common Bathing Lady is also found in Western Siberia.

What's in your name

You can read about the roots of the Latin name of the genus "Trollius" in the article "The Asian Bathing Lady".

The Russian name is not a literal translation of the Latin "Trollius", but was assigned to the plant for its predilection to grow in wet areas of land, choosing for its growing cycle May-June, while the soil still retains spring moisture.

The Latin epithet "europaeus" does not need any explanation, although the Common Bathing Suit can be found not only in the European wilderness, but also on the lands of Western Siberia, the climate of which is quite suitable for the plant.

Description

The perennial of the plant is supported by underground roots-cords that create small clumps of the Common Bather, which in meadows and meadows turn into a continuous carpet of green openwork foliage, decorated with sunny yellow flowers.

Depending on where the seeds of the plant managed to germinate, in the cold tundra or more favorable living conditions, the height of the European Baths ranges from 20 (twenty) to 100 (one hundred) centimeters.

The Common Bather is born in the form of a rosette of basal palmate leaves, from the center of which a smooth single stem emerges into the world. In the upper part, the stem is covered with sessile palmate leaves and can branch. The size of the stem leaves is inferior to the size of the rosette leaves. Each stem ends with a single flower.

Large spherical (up to five centimeters in diameter) single flowers are formed by a dozen or a couple of dozen sepals surrounding the petals, pistil and stamens of the flower. The color of the sepals and petals can take on different shades of yellow, from pale to golden. At the same time, the petals are colored with a more saturated shade than the protective sepals, which seem to be slightly discolored by the spring sunbeams. After all, flowering occurs in May-early June. The light aroma exuded by the flowers attracts bees, which harvest a good harvest of nectar in exchange for pollination of the ovary.

The culmination of the vegetation cycle of the European Bathing Lady is the fruit - a composite leaflet that looks like a miniature funny hedgehog, which prudently bent its needles inside so as not to injure anyone. The seeds in each leaflet are arranged along a suture called the "abdominal". When the seeds are fully ripe, the seam is opened, releasing the seeds so that they continue the presence of the European Bather on our amazingly beautiful planet.

Usage

In addition to the fact that this species is an excellent spring honey plant, the European Bathing Lady is characterized by the abilities that other species of the genus are endowed with. The composition of chemicals in stems, leaves, flowers and roots allows the plant to be used to heal a number of ailments in the human body, including inflammation. But, official medicine does not resort to the services of the Common Bather, finding similar substances in other plants that are more numerous.

As for the European Bathing Lady, this plant needs protection from complete extinction, and therefore is listed in a number of the Red Data Books.
