Fence polka dots (lat. Vicia sepium) - a plant with underground creeping long shoots, representing the genus Vic (Latin Vicia) of the Legume family (Latin Fabaceae). This perennial herb with paired leaves and pale pinkish-bluish flowers is similar to numerous relatives both in appearance and in its abilities. And only one botanist knows all the fine morphological data that made the plant stand out as an independent species of the genus Vika (or, Peas). The plant, rich in proteins and other nutrients, is suitable as food for domestic ruminants.

Description

Underground creeping long shoots ensure the longevity of the Chickpea. From them, erect, or curly, appear on the surface of the earth; simple or sometimes branching at the base of the stems, the surface of which is bare, and the height reaches a maximum of 60 centimeters.

The compound leaf begins with semi-sagittal stipules. Then there is a common long petiole, on which, with the help of short petioles, miniature leaves sit in symmetrical pairs. The leaf ends with a branched tendril necessary for the plant to cling to other, more durable, plants living in the neighborhood.

Bare or slightly pubescent leaves from ovate to broad-linear configuration grow to a maximum of 3.5 centimeters in length. On one complex sheet, there are 4 to 8 pretty pairs of leaves, which are decoratively given by well-defined oblique veins stretching from the central vein to the edge of the leaf. The base and end of the leaves are rounded. The tip of the leaf is often armed with a short tip.

In the axils of the leaves, moth flowers are located, forming modest inflorescences-brushes of three or four flowers. The pale pinkish-bluish corolla is protected by intergrown sepals that form a calyx in the form of a small bell with a short-toothed margin. Corolla length is from 12 to 15 millimeters.

The fruit is a green pubescent pod 2.5 to 4 centimeters long with a valve width of 0.6 to 0.8 centimeters with seeds inside. When fully ripe and dry, the surface of the valves turns black and bald.

Areal of Pea Intake

The plant's specific epithet “sepium” (“fence”) somewhat narrows the range of the plant to areas that run along village fences. This, of course, is not entirely correct. In the wild, Pickle peas are a very brave plant that chooses mountainous areas for their residence. Although it can be found on the banks of streams and rivers, in spacious meadows, as well as in ditches, quarries, dumps and other reliefs created by human hands.

The plant feels comfortable in European lands. Being a winter-hardy plant, Picket peas are widespread in Siberia. As an invasive plant, it is found in North America, Greenland and on the largest Russian island - Sakhalin.

Since the ubiquitous plant in different years fell into the circle of attention of different botanists, it has a lot of synonymous names, because each botanist tried to give the plant its own name. Therefore, lovers of "truth", before entering into an argument about the correct name of the plant, it is worth looking through the Internet in search of all the names of the plant that caused the disagreement.

Usage

Pea is inherent in many of the abilities that his relatives have.

The plant can heal depleted lands, enriching them with nitrogen and organic matter, and can be grown to prepare food for ruminant domestic animals, which was the case in Russia a little over a century ago. In Great Britain, Vicky's seeds were included in the seed mix used for sowing pastures for ruminant domestic animals.
