Country life has long been impossible to imagine without family gatherings, the main treat at which is barbecue. This popular dish is cooked on a grill made mainly of metal. If there is a special grate, it is also used for barbecue. And it is not at all necessary to purchase a brazier in a store, because you can make it yourself

The barbecue is usually a metal box with holes for air circulation. It is installed on legs and has small indentations for skewers. For frequent gatherings and picnics for large campaigns, stationary non-collapsible barbecues are very convenient, which are not so difficult to make yourself using sheet steel.

Size selection

Experts advise to select the size of the metal barbecue exclusively individually, but taking into account those design options that have already been implemented and tested in practice. When choosing dimensions, the main thing is to ensure its high functionality in the future, and convenience during operation.

* When calculating the length, you should proceed from the planned loading of the barbecue and take into account the additional distance between the skewers. For example, for eight skewers, the best barbecue length would be about eighty centimeters.

* The width of the metal barbecue device is taken from the available ready-made drawings. It is selected based on practice. So, up to 8 portioned pieces of meat are usually strung on one skewer, which is why a size of about 30 centimeters is good. If done more broadly, then this option will be less economical, since it will lead to much higher coal consumption.

* The optimum depth for this device is 15 centimeters. This is quite enough for laying coals and roasting meat.

* The required height of the barbecue is selected empirically. To do this, bend the arm at the elbow and imitate turning the skewer. Thus, the most convenient height for frying meat is selected.

Tools and materials

For the construction of a metal device for frying kebabs, sheet steel with a thickness of at least 1.5 mm is required, and for the durability of the structure it is better to use a thickness of 4 mm or more. For the legs, you will need either corners of 25 by 25 mm, or tubes with a diameter of 20 to 25 mm or rods - 10 mm. If the work will take place without welding, then you still need to buy the required number of bolts for all sides and legs.

The following tools are required: a welding machine and a set of electrodes, a grinder, a drill, a cutting circle for steel, drills with a diameter of at least 20 mm. But if done without welding, then there should be: a drill, a grinder and a set of locksmith tools. You will also need heat-resistant paint if you want to paint the brazier.

Work order

The way in which the brazier will be made should be determined at the stage of drawing up the drawing. When using welding, it will be quite enough to mark the sheets of metal according to the drawing, and then cut out, using a grinder, 5 rectangles: short and long sides, bottom. If welding is not used, then it will be necessary to add 30-40 mm on each side. Then the assembly of the structure is performed in this order:

* holes are drilled on the long sidewalls with a pitch of 50 mm for air access. The very first hole is drilled at a distance of at least 2 centimeters from the long edge;

* drilling holes on the sidewalls at the bottom and welding parts of the "box" of the barbecue;

* preparation of legs and welding them outside - along the corners of the "box" or at the end, to the bottom. In this case, it is necessary to ensure that the length of all legs is the same, and all parts are firmly attached to the body of the barbecue;

* painting.

When assembling without a welding machine, it will be necessary to bend the excess steel of 30-40 mm from the side of the joints and dock them together with the second side. Then drill 3 holes through the joint along the edges and in the middle and bolt the surfaces. 4 cuts should be made from the bottom along the ribs and very carefully bent inward at right angles, thereby forming a support platform for the bottom of the case. Then the legs are mounted, using 2 bolts on each side of the body. After that, the grill can be painted.
