The design of a classic barbecue is a metal "box" with perforation on the body, mounted on legs. Barbecue devices can be stationary or portable, made of cast iron or steel, and have different functionality. For example, the simplest model of a portable barbecue is two metal frames, and skewers are stacked directly on them. A functional metal brazier is, as a rule, a stationary model, equipped with side platforms for laying out stocks of meat, clean skewers, and placing water for extinguishing coals. They can be decorated with forged elements, ornate details, supplied with covers and chimneys, installed on a special foundation and equipped with a canopy. Particularly advanced summer residents build brick barbecues. However, all this requires special skills and additional financial resources. But the brazier can be made from improvised means, for example, using an old metal barrel or a gas cylinder for this. The product will turn out to be functional and very original.
Safety requirements
Having decided to make a brazier from an old metal barrel or a gas cylinder, you need to make sure that they are suitable for these purposes. You cannot use barrels of fuels and lubricants, pesticides and other hazardous substances, because it is planned to cook a food product in them. The gas bottle must be free of gas residues. The walls of the existing metal container should not be very thin (for example, for steel - not thinner than 1.5 mm) and not corroded. After that, you can estimate whether it is suitable for alteration to the size of a classic barbecue.

The barrel or cylinder already has its own length, width and depth. It is necessary to put the existing container horizontally and measure all its dimensions. So, for a functional barbecue, the required length of the frying part is calculated based on the fact that about 10 centimeters are needed for 1 skewer, and their total number is estimated from the planned volumes of barbecue cooking. The optimal width is 30 centimeters, the depth is 15 centimeters. The height of the future barbecue device is selected so that it is convenient to turn the skewers over. If the existing metal containers can be redone, having achieved close to the optimal size, then you can start making the original barbecue.
Materials and tools
So, in addition to a metal container, metal corners, a drill, a grinder, electrodes and a welding machine are needed. Further work is performed in the following sequence:
* markings are applied to the container in accordance with the previously drawn up drawing;
* according to the marking, the upper half of the container is cut off with a grinder, while the ends must remain in place;
* the walls of the container are perforated with a drill;
* legs are made from metal corners, for this they are cut into equal 4 parts according to previously calculated dimensions;
* legs are welded to the end parts of the container;
* according to the dimensions of the frying part of the container, two identical metal corners are cut off - supports for skewers;
* at the corners, according to the existing drawing, cuts are made - guides for skewers;
* corners are welded to the inside of the container;
* a lid is made from a previously cut off part of the container, for which two handles and metal hinges are welded to it;
* ready-made grill can be painted with special heat-resistant paint.
