Hotbeds and greenhouses are true friends of gardeners and gardeners. And, despite the fact that the construction of these structures takes a lot of time and money, the timing of the harvest, its quality and quantity justify all the costs with interest. Greenhouses and hotbeds are a kind of condensers, they are able to retain heat for a long period, which means they create a beneficial environment for the normal growth and development of plants, especially heat-loving crops

What is the difference?

Greenhouses and hotbeds are outwardly similar to each other, moreover, they perform approximately the same functions, but there are significant differences between them.

Greenhouses and hotbeds differ not only in design, but also in terms of operation. Greenhouses are stationary structures that are designed for longer operation, their structures are considered more durable, since they use high-quality metal, polycarbonate, glass, etc. gardening season.

Structures differ among themselves and in size. For example, greenhouses most often have large dimensions, their height can reach three meters. Greenhouses are designed for growing and protecting plant seedlings from adverse weather conditions, their height does not exceed one and a half meters.

An equally important distinguishing feature is the equipment of the structures, in this they have nothing in common. Most greenhouses are equipped with an automatic irrigation and ventilation system, as well as additional heating equipment. It is simply unprofitable to mount such equipment in greenhouses, they are heated by sunlight and the release of heat from decomposing organic matter present in the soil.

DIY summer greenhouse

Building a greenhouse is a troublesome and costly business, but every summer resident can do it. One of the most reliable and budgetary options is the construction of a polycarbonate greenhouse with a timber foundation.

Before proceeding with the construction, it is necessary to draw up a diagram of the future greenhouse. Then they move on to the construction of the foundation. Of course, a brick or concrete foundation will become more stable and strong, but a wooden one will also serve for at least 10 years. It is important to treat the timber with a special protective compound, for example, drying oil, before laying the foundation.

The next step is to install the support (according to the previously calculated dimensions of the greenhouse) on a flat and well-rammed surface, on which the timber is attached. Next, proceed to the installation of a metal or wooden frame. For these purposes, a metal pipe with a size of 20 * 40 * 2 mm or a bar is perfect. Also, for self-modeling of a metal frame, you will need a machine for metal or a grinder and a welding machine to connect the structure, for a wooden one - a saw and nails. In the event that mounting the frame causes any difficulties, you can order it in any workshop. Even in this case, the greenhouse will cost several times cheaper than purchasing a ready-made version.

After making the frame and installing it on the foundation, they begin to fasten polycarbonate sheets, self-tapping screws and thermal washers will perfectly cope with this task. Attach polycarbonate to the overlay, the overlap should be 6-7 cm, for tightness they are pasted over with aluminum tape. Internal "seams" are reinforced with perforated tape, it will ensure the drainage of condensate and prevent drafts and dust in the greenhouse. Do not forget about the doors on which polycarbonate is also attached. The greenhouse is ready!

DIY greenhouse

Making a greenhouse takes much less money and time than a greenhouse. To create this useful structure for every gardener and gardener, you will need: a board measuring 25 * 150 * 3, a roll of strong plastic film, a hacksaw or a circular saw, a tape measure, nails and a hammer.

Before carrying out work on the manufacture of a greenhouse, the boards are covered with an antiseptic compound designed to protect the tree from damage by insects or fungi. After that, a box of the required dimensions is put together, along the bottom of which protrusions of at least 20-25 cm are left, they are designed to install the greenhouse in the ground. The required amount of plastic film is cut to the size of the box, its edges are fixed with wooden slats. One side of the processed film is attached to the main box. The greenhouse is ready!
