The modern market is huge and amazes with the variety of different insulation materials that differ from each other in price, properties, and service life. How not to get confused in this variety and choose exactly what you need? As an aid, I offer you an article on modern insulation. In the current market of building materials, ecowool is in greatest demand among heaters

What is ecowool?

Ecowool is a modern cellulose insulation containing special additives (antiseptic (boric acid) and fire retardants (borax)) that help improve the quality of this material. Has a loose, fibrous structure. Suitable for any buildings, from residential to animal sheds and outbuildings. By the way, ecowool can be used even in rooms with high humidity.

Despite its wide distribution, ecowool has its supporters and opponents due to its properties. Let's consider its advantages and disadvantages.

Benefits of ecowool

First of all, I would like to note the excellent thermal insulation properties of this material. A layer of ecowool, 15 centimeters thick, in terms of thermal conductivity is equal to a wall, 4, 5 thick ordinary bricks. As an argument against ecowool, one can cite the fact that any mineral wool has the same thermal conductivity. This is true. But ecowool is much easier to apply correctly. Mineral wool is sold in rolls and for its correct installation, a number of conditions must be met, including tight stretching, the presence of special sections in the frame of the house. But the most important thing is the human factor. If you do something wrong, such as: calculate the size of the sections, it is not enough to pull the mineral wool, leave a gap somewhere, then the thermal conductivity will be broken. It is believed that the gap, which makes up about 4% of the entire area to be insulated, leads to a loss of 25% of the heat capacity of the walls.

Ecowool completely eliminates the human factor, since it is quite easy to carefully apply it with special tools in an even layer. There will be no cracks or the possibility of insulation sagging.

Secondly, environmental friendliness. Ecowool contains cellulose, borax and boric acid, and all these components are safe for people and the environment.

Thirdly, unlike mineral wool and foam, borax contained in ecowool is an antipyretic component, which increases the resistance of the room to fire, and borax is also a poison for rodents, which means that mice and rats will not spoil the insulation.

Fourthly, ecowool is an excellent soundproofing material.

Fifth, ease of installation. Ecowool can be sprayed both on a one-sided surface (wall) and between panels. Spraying with tools completely eliminates the formation of voids and subsidence of the insulation.

Sixth, due to the fact that ecowool is applied by spraying, the insulation is obtained completely without seams and joints. And due to the lack of joints, there is no waste, and this is already economically profitable.

Disadvantages of ecowool

The first and important minus is the cost of ecowool. Insulation with this material will cost about 30-40% more than insulation with any mineral wool, not to mention the use of foam as insulation - here the cost of the material will differ significantly.

The second disadvantage is that if you do not have experience in building and working with ecowool, then it is still better to entrust the insulation of the house to professionals (you can independently practice the insulation of auxiliary buildings). Although it is believed that there is nothing difficult in applying this insulation, in fact there are subtleties that need to be considered. Namely, the ecowool must lie in an even layer.

And the third minus, despite all the simplicity of working with ecowool, its environmental friendliness and other advantages, special tools are needed to work with this insulation - blowing pneumatic installations.

As a result, I want to say that yes, ecowool is more expensive than other heaters, but at the same time it is safer and more reliable, and in operation it is economically justified.
