Everyone knows that in cold weather, in a heated room, sometimes the feet freeze. This often depends on the construction of the floor, which has one row of planks laid on joists. Even if they are additionally covered with chipboard plates, linoleum, this will not prevent cold penetration into the house - insulation is needed. The most practical way to keep your home warm is with a properly made floor. Let's look at several options for floor insulation and work methods
The choice of insulation for the floor
When choosing thermal insulation, give preference to environmentally friendly materials. Consider the most effective and inexpensive heaters.
Expanded polystyrene
Expanded polystyrene is widespread among summer residents, it is distinguished by its durability, environmental friendliness, resistance to moisture, atmospheric extremes. It is a gaseous polymer with styrene granules. For floor insulation, it is suitable for two options: in a double floor system and as a base base for coatings on cement-concrete mixtures. Good sound absorption properties are used to create floors on second floors.
Mineral basalt wool
Mineral basalt wool will allow you to economically insulate the floor. The material is characterized by high fire resistance, excellent thermal insulation properties. Available in soft rolls and compacted plates. It has a significant drawback - it shrinks over time, with the formation of cracks and gaps. The reception of dense packing helps to extend the service: it is recommended to cut fragments with an excess of the distance between the lags.
Sawdust
Sawdust can be used in its natural form, scattering between floors, but this requires preliminary processing: from rodents, fires. The preparation process consists of adding an antiseptic, lime, gypsum or cement. For year-round living, an underground layer of 30 cm is needed, for summer residence - 25 cm. Derivatives of this material are sold in the form of sawdust granules, wood blocks, wood concrete, sawdust concrete.
Styrofoam
Polyfoam is ideal for houses where wintering is not planned, does not require large financial investments.
Choosing insulation technology
There are two options for making the floor warm: using thermal insulation (double floor), laying the heating system under the floor. Both methods can be combined.
Underfloor heating technology
Today you can choose a heating system for the floor: infrared or electric (heating cables). Modern innovative solutions allow laying a heating thin film or electrical cables under the final finishing. Such a system requires certain knowledge and skills.
Double floor technology
A more affordable way for self-execution is the arrangement of a double floor. The bottom layer of the floor is made of rough planks (thick slats), which fit almost without gaps. Finishing is located directly on the beams, on top of the first coating, insulation between them. The work is performed in the following sequence:
- removal of floorboards, - installation of timber-lags with a step of 60-100 cm, - subfloor flooring, - laying waterproofing, - laying out insulation, - the second layer of waterproofing, - covering with a layer of fiberboard or moisture-resistant plywood, - finishing flooring.
How to lay insulation
The efficiency of heat retention depends on the quality of the work. An example of a common installation method: a layer of roofing material (glassine) is spread over the subfloor, the surface (3-5 cm) is covered with a layer of sand and covered with a plastic wrap, on which the insulation is neatly placed. Any kind can be used: mineral wool, polystyrene foam, expanded polystyrene, sawdust. Now a second layer of waterproofing is applied with a bend on the walls of 10 cm, then the final stage is carried out - laying out the finished floor.
Double floor for the lazy
Warming the floor in a residential building always causes difficulties, since you need to take out all the furniture, remove the floorboard, such work requires the mobilization of forces and creates discomfort in the house. There is an easier way - insulation from below, from the side of the underground.
Such work is performed from a sitting-lying position (depending on the height of the floor from the ground), everything is done in stages. First, waterproofing is applied directly to the old floor with a stapler, then cranial bars are nailed to the beams, then a second floor is made from wooden slats, a layer of glassine or film is laid on it, then insulation (basalt mats, slabs). Do not forget to leave a gap between the insulation layer and the top boards (5-7 cm is enough). Such a double floor "works" no worse than the technologies described above.
