Description of wormwood
Field wormwood or plain is a perennial herb, the height of which will be about twenty centimeters. Such a plant will be endowed with an upright woody root, which in turn develops vegetative generative shoots. The stem of the field wormwood will be straight and branched, it will be painted in brown or slightly reddening tones. The rosette of leaves at the base of this stem is absent, as well as the whole plant, the stem will be bare or it may be endowed with sparse half-pressed hairs. The leaves of barren shoots and the lower stem leaves of wormwood will be long-petiolized, and their length will be about ten centimeters. Such leaves will be double- or thrice-pinnate into narrow-lanceolate lobes, the length of which will be about three to ten millimeters. The middle and upper stem leaves of this plant are sessile and will most often be pinnately dissected. The wormwood inflorescence will be spike-paniculate and endowed with rather numerous and small-sized baskets. The length of such baskets will be about one and a half to three millimeters, they will be directed upwards and are ovoid. The marginal flowers in the baskets of the wormwood will be pistillate; they are endowed with a narrow-tubular and two-toothed corolla. The middle flowers, in turn, are staminate; they are endowed with a conical shape with a bare corolla and an underdeveloped pistil.
Under natural conditions, this plant is found on the territory of Moldova, Belarus, Ukraine, the Caucasus, Central Asia, in all regions of Western Siberia except for the Ob, as well as in all regions of the European part of Russia, with the exception of Dvinsko-Pechora and Karelo-Murmansk. For growing, wormwood prefers pine forests, steppe meadows, fields, gravelly slopes, sandy river and sea shores.
Description of the medicinal properties of wormwood
Field wormwood is endowed with very valuable healing properties, while for medicinal purposes it is recommended to use the fruits and herbs of this plant. Grass includes flowers, stems and leaves. The presence of such valuable healing properties is recommended to be explained by the content of rubber, phenolcarboxylic acids and their derivatives, as well as essential oil in this plant. In the roots of wormwood, the following polyacetylene compounds will be present: dehydrofolcarinone, artemisiaquetone.
As for traditional medicine, here this plant has become quite widespread: a decoction prepared on the basis of the wormwood herb is recommended for use in numerous gynecological diseases.
An infusion and decoction based on the herb of this plant is used for female diseases, gastralgia, diarrhea, cystitis, pulmonary tuberculosis, ostealgia and as an anthelmintic agent. In addition, in the form of rinses, an infusion prepared on the basis of the wormwood herb is used for the oral cavity in case of toothache.
Freshly crushed herb of this plant is used locally for various purulent wounds, and in the form of poultices, this herb is used for tumors. In the collection, wormwood herb can be used for gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer, as well as for acute and chronic gastritis.
