There is no more durable coating than ceramic tiles. This material is popular in city apartments and cottages. Today we will talk about the technology of the process of laying tiles on a plank floor and the methods of cladding wooden walls
Preparing a wooden floor for tiles
The characteristics of the tile show that it is a vapor-proof, brittle, inelastic material. Therefore, the base must be firm, dense, impervious to moisture and not "play" while walking. This requires careful preparatory work.
- We clean the floor from old linoleum, paint and varnish material, plywood and so on.
- We check the condition of the boards and the base, if necessary, we do restoration, reinforcement of beams and logs. We try to eliminate deflections and deformation under load.
- If there is a sub-floor, then the space (air gap) is filled with expanded clay. This technique will create a favorable microclimate of the black floor and give stability to the boards.
- We do the treatment of all components with an antiseptic.
- We are laying a waterproofing membrane with an overlap of more than 15 cm. We release 20-25 around the perimeter. We fix it with a furniture stapler.
Cooking the floor surface
You can prepare the base in different ways. Let's consider three options.
Gypsum fiber boards (GKLV)
This method is considered the fastest, but requires accuracy and knowledge. The installation of the slabs must be carried out with great accuracy, without drops and jumps in the canvases. Fastening with self-tapping screws requires a perfect hit by all means into the boards, for this a beacon is pulled in the form of a cord or twine.
After installation, the seams are spilled with a sealant. To prevent decay of boards and slabs, ventilation holes are made in increments of 70 cm. The finished flooring is primed with a solution for tile adhesive or cement.
Screed application
The screed method is of higher quality - it is a time consuming and costly process. On boards cleaned of paint, to give rigidity, a plaster mesh with a fine mesh is placed, poured with a solution, smoothed and leveled using a long board. If you plan to put tiles on glue, then we make an appropriate primer.
Chipboard base
Reduces the volume and labor intensity of the ICE sheets. The main requirement is flatness of the plane. In the absence of a "horizon", it is impossible to level the floor without dismantling. Disadvantages include susceptibility to moisture and a tendency to deform. The preparation is identical to gypsum fiber, but it is recommended to attach a paint net under the primer.
The process of laying on a wooden floor
A room with a non-standard shape, requires preliminary floor marking. You need to start with the part that is more illuminated and focused, then there will be no fit. Lay out, draw outlines. When laying, you need to maintain even gaps between the tiles, inserting special marking crosses between each element (sold together with grout).
It is important to maintain a uniform layer of adhesive / mortar over the entire surface to achieve a smooth surface. The edges of the tiles must not "play". In this case, it is easier to lay on the mortar, as it allows the horizon to be easily adjusted. If the fragment protrudes above the plane, it can be deepened by pressing. Excess mass protruding through the seams can be easily removed.
You cannot do without fitting-cutting the tiles in the corners, along the walls. This is done with a regular glass cutter, forming a line on the face, then breaking like glass. Can be cut with a grinder (ceramic disc). The cut parts are stacked last, when the rest of the coating has set (2-4 hours). By the way, when using glue, the excess coming out to the surface must be removed immediately, otherwise there will be difficulties after drying. After drying, remove the tiled markings, grout the joints.
Laying tiles on a wooden wall
If you want to lay out the tiles in the bathroom, in the kitchen you will need to pre-install the drywall on the walls intended for tiling. You need to lay it according to the method described above. If only decorative finishing of the lower part of the walls is planned in the bathroom, then one row of tiles can be fixed with “liquid nails” on an unprepared surface, and the top can be smeared with a sealant. This will ensure bond strength and moisture resistance.
