What to plant next to carrots?

Every more or less experienced summer resident knows very well that the crops planted nearby can not only help each other, but also harm. This means that there are plants that are categorically not recommended to be planted next to a particular crop, and plants that will become great neighbors for the same crop. Let's try to figure out what can be planted next to such a popular, necessary and important crop as carrots, because they are not only very tasty, but also incredibly healthy? And "correct" neighbors in the garden are at least half of the success

Onions are the best friend for carrots

The well-known onion is one of the best neighbors for carrots! Planted in the same bed with bright carrots, it will excellently scare away voracious carrot flies (many years of experience have shown that these extremely annoying pests are completely intolerant of the onion smell)! But even this is not the end of the benefits of the onion neighbor - among other things, it does not allow damage to crispy carrots and no less harmful root mites!

However, carrots will not remain in an irredeemable debt - they will provide the handsome onion with reliable protection from both the moth and the onion moth. And, most importantly, carrots can perfectly coexist with all types of onions without exception!

Many summer residents successfully use separate methods of planting carrots and onions. One of the methods is that first, about two weeks before the start of sowing carrots, onion seeds are scattered over the beds. But they should not be sprinkled immediately, but only after sowing the carrots themselves. But if the carrot is planned to be planted next to the onion sets, then first you need to plant the carrot, and only after a few weeks it will be possible to plant the set next to it. Ideally, in this case, onions and carrots should grow either in one row or in a couple of rows.

What else can you plant nearby?

Not only onions can be planted next to carrots - tomatoes will also become excellent neighbors for this incredibly popular garden culture (at the same time, if onions also grow next to it, it does not hurt to know that onions are categorically incompatible with tomatoes, that is, in this case, you will have to choose only one of these crops for planting next to carrots!), and garlic, and lettuce, as well as peas, sage and radishes with beans. It is especially good to plant carrots next to tomatoes or with various legumes - this approach will allow you to get not only a plentiful, but also a very tasty harvest. And it's best to plant them across the garden bed, as each crop should have enough space!

For other crops, the carrot growing nearby is useful because during flowering it invariably attracts a huge number of useful insects to the site with its special aroma!

What crops will be unsuitable neighbors for carrots?

It is highly undesirable to grow celery in the same bed with carrots - the latter not only does not help in the fight against carrot flies, but on the contrary, only attracts these harmful insects to the site! You should not plant parsley and carrots next to it, as well as horseradish, beets, anise or any fragrant greens - such a neighborhood can be detrimental to a bright beauty. Carrots growing next to dill or beets are unlikely to please with impressive harvests. And it is categorically not recommended to plant it in the immediate vicinity of apple trees, since in this case both crops will suffer - even if the harvests are plentiful, both apples and carrots will become bitter. And this moment, too, in no case should be discounted, because every summer resident wants to grow a wonderful harvest of precisely sweet crispy carrots!
