Carrots are another vegetable, without which it is difficult to imagine our daily diet. But why is it that the variety, which promises a large and juicy root crop on the package with seeds, brings a completely different - nondescript harvest. We figure out what mistakes can be made when sowing and growing carrots in order to prevent them and grow carrots to our delight, and to the envy of neighbors
The importance of crop rotation
One of the secrets of good carrot yields is crop rotation. Carrots will not grow well in the same place. The optimal solution is to change the sowing beds every year.
It is better to think over the fruit change of cultures in advance. And return the carrots to their old place no earlier than four years later. Well, if this did not work out, then remember that crops such as potatoes and tomatoes, onions and cabbage will be good predecessors for carrots.
Soil quality and high beds
Like other root crops, carrots do not like heavy clay soils, preferring light, loose soil. Therefore, it is advisable to carry out loosening to a great depth before sowing. By doing this, you will help the carrot grow a nice, beautiful, even root crop so that it does not waste extra effort to "push" the soil as it grows.
And if the soil on the site leaves much to be desired, but you still intend to sow carrots, then do not be lazy to build high beds for these purposes. And your efforts will pay off with a wonderful harvest. Or choose a variety that does not form a long root vegetable, but builds up a short and plump carrot.
In order for the carrots to grow well, it is useful to add decomposed compost to the beds in advance. Fresh compost and manure should not be buried in the ground. From this, the root crop begins to branch. Lime the soil is also undesirable.
How to hurry the seeds to sprout as soon as possible
The seeds of carrots are tough-like. But there is a way to hasten the emergence of seedlings. For this, the seeds must be processed in a special way. Carrot seeds take a long time to germinate because of the essential oils. And if you are late in sowing carrots and are afraid that it is too late to start sowing, you just need to wash off the essential oils. And shoots will appear 3-5 days after sowing.
How to wash off such a protective shell? Very simple - hot water. But not with boiling water, but such a degree that he could dip his finger into the water, and he endured. This is approximately 60 °.
Wrap the carrot seeds in cheesecloth or immerse them in a bag and put them in water. Keep in hot water until cool. This procedure is done three times. And then they allow the seeds to dry out to a loose state.
Of course, granular seeds that have been processed by the manufacturer should not be subjected to this procedure.
Seed sowing tricks
For sowing seeds, transverse grooves are made in the garden. On narrow beds, it will be more convenient to make longitudinal grooves. And after sowing the seeds, sprinkle them not with earth, but with soaked coconut substrate. This method is beneficial in that after watering, a soil crust does not form, which also delays the emergence of seedlings. And after watering, cover the garden.
Alternatively, you can use another method instead of coconut. To do this, cover the beds with a layer of rotted sawdust. Then make grooves in them. Moisten them with warm water from a watering can. Make grooves and sow seeds. And cover them back with sawdust. And then water thoroughly again. To prevent sawdust from being washed away by rains, it is recommended to mulch them - with small branches, straw or spruce branches.
Fresh sawdust should not be used because it will draw nitrogen out of the soil.
Care ha sowing
Experienced gardeners do not advise additional watering of the beds until the first two or three true leaves appear. In addition, if you fill the carrot with water, the root will not have an incentive to go deep to “seek” moisture. In addition, too frequent watering cools the soil and compacts it. From dressings during this period, you can use herbal infusion.

Winter Sowing Of Carrots
To get juicy crispy carrots by mid-June, you will have to sow them before winter. As a rule, when sown in winter, vegetables grow much larger and turn out to be much sweeter than their counterparts sown at standard times. This is due to the fact that seed germination in the soil starts in early spring - during this period the soil is well saturated with moisture, which is vital for tiny sprouts at the very beginning of their development. Thanks to this feature, carrots will begin to sprout more amicably, and it will grow n
