Many novice flower growers successfully master the forcing of tulips, daffodils, hyacinths in winter and for the 8th of March. But they don't know what to do with the bulbs after that. Let's fill this gap so that precious planting material doesn't go to waste. After all, once tulips were worth their weight in gold. Now, of course, they do not cost so much, but this did not make them less beautiful and desirable in the garden
Onion pot
To begin with, let's talk about how and in what form the cherished blooming tulip or the same hyacinth got into your house. If it was bought in a store, then, most likely, it "nests" in a miniature pot. You probably know that in order to drive out the bud, the bulbs are planted in a large box very close to each other - by the bridge method. And before being sold, the flowers are moved to shipping pots. So, in these pots, the flower withers quickly, and the bulb does not receive proper nutrition. It will wither and dry.
To save the plant, after purchasing it, it is better to transplant it into a larger pot with nutrient soil. Under such conditions, the roots will begin to develop better, and the bulb, along with moisture, will receive sufficient nutrition. Thanks to this, the bulb will accumulate a supply of nutrients in order to gain strength for re-flowering in the future.
Plant care after flowering
After the plant has faded, you cannot stop caring for it. It is better to cut the flower stalks, but leave the leaves in a pot. The leaf apparatus is necessary so that the bulb continues to grow, develop and accumulate nutrients.
Despite the fact that the plant has faded, it is advisable to leave the pot in a bright place so that the process of photosynthesis goes on as usual. However, it is not recommended to leave the flower on the southern windows and in direct sunlight. From this, the leaves will turn yellow faster. Now the plant needs diffused light.
It is important to keep watering and feeding the pot. Common fertilizers are used for indoor flowers. They are brought in together with watering. This is required as long as the leaves remain green. It is also recommended to apply fungicides every 10 days. And when the leaves begin to turn yellow, the soil moisture is gradually reduced.
Naturally, planting in the ground in the same spring should not be carried out. The bulbs need rest. And even if you plant them in a flowerbed, most of them will still not bloom, but will only waste energy.
Preventive measures and treatment of diseases
In addition, the plants may also need treatment. To check this, the bulbs are removed from the soil and carefully examined. If the bulb is completely dry under the scales, then, most likely, it will no longer be possible to save it. But when you have a dense onion in your hands, albeit with traces of mold or rot, then you can still work with it.
First of all, you need to clean the flakes from the bulbs. Then carefully examine the planting material. Clean up the rotten places. They can even be treated with brilliant green. For the prevention or treatment of mold, bathe in a solution of any fungicide. And then dry and store until autumn.
Storage of bulbs before planting in the ground
If you are sure that the bulbs are completely healthy, because you yourself were forcing, and did not buy flowers in the store, and you know that you used absolutely safe soil, then it is quite possible to leave the bulbs in the pot. And store in it without watering until autumn.
Well, in the fall, it will already be possible to plant all your bulbs on a flower bed with a clear conscience. So that in the spring they please with their flowering not on the windowsill, but in your garden.
