Spring is just around the corner and the opening of the garden season is just around the corner. And how nice, after the last snowdrifts have gone, to see the first flowers on your site, welcomingly swaying in the still cool wind. One of the favorite primroses of summer residents has been and remains for many years - lumbago, or sleep-grass. How to get it in your garden?
Protected by the state
Sleep grass grows well in the northern hemisphere, most often in the tundra and polar zones. Until the onset of spring, the roots of this plant hibernate under a layer of snow, and after the sun warms up, its buds shoot out of the ground, delighting the eye with purple, scarlet, white, yellowish bells on an elongated stem with slightly drooping silvery villi. At the slightest breath of wind, the flowers sway, probably hence their Latin name "pulsare" - "to sway".
Following the flowers, leaves appear at the lumbago. They are densely dissected, feathery and drooping with long silvery hairs. Its fruits are small hairy nuts. People in ancient times believed that the dream-herb is a magical flower, so it was plucked in large quantities, using it in various rituals and potions. So the lumbago became less and less. To date, the plant is listed in the Red Book, and it is better not to touch the wild dream-grass. It's easier to start it on your site.
Good in the shade
It is more optimal to plant a lumbago in shaded areas, but this does not mean that it will not be able to develop normally in open areas. Sleep is a herb plant that prefers fertile, deeply cultivated soils. It does not tolerate stagnant water, so it is not advisable to plant the plant in lowlands or in places where a lot of water accumulates.
In a dry hot summer, the lumbago must be watered carefully so as not to flood it. It is advisable to fill the soil with mineral and organic fertilizers and apply additional fertilizing to them. Lumbago reacts well to lime in the soil. Already mature plants are not transplanted to another place. If, nevertheless, there is a need for a transplant, then this operation is best carried out in the fall or spring, digging a plant with a large lump of soil. Lumbago is winter-hardy and is not afraid of even the most severe cold weather.
Born from a seed
Lumbago is a plant that reproduces exclusively by seeds. You need to sow it with freshly picked seeds in early summer or spring in already warmed soil. Seeds are laid in the ground to a depth of 1 centimeter at a fairly close distance from each other. Seedlings must be watered abundantly, but water stagnation must still be avoided. Experts also recommend mulching them, which will allow moisture to remain in the soil and protect young plants from overheating or cold. Sleep grass has practically no enemies and diseases.
For medicinal purposes, the leaves and flowers of the lumbago are used. Dry them in a shaded, very well-ventilated place. Pay attention to the fact that fresh plants are not used, because the active components in them appear only after drying. In its raw form, the dream herb is absolutely useless for medicinal purposes.
Provides calm and healthy sleep
Sleep herb helps to calm nerves, headaches. It acts as a mild but effective sleeping pill. In folk medicine, this plant is considered soothing, which is probably why its name arose. Infusions of lumbago effectively help even with the most severe cough, with bronchitis and whooping cough, act as a diuretic and anti-inflammatory agent.
Often, the plant is used to treat all kinds of diseases of the female genital area. Sleep herb tea has long been known as a remedy for insomnia and migraines. Pay special attention that extracts from this plant are not used for nephritis and gastritis due to the strong irritant effect. Therefore, it is better to consult with your doctor before using postrel products.
From time immemorial
Our ancestors collected this wonderful plant with different incantations and rituals, since it was believed that this way the healing properties of the sleep-grass would be more effective. A sleeping person at the head with this grass is not afraid of any misfortunes, and even more so the evil eye. All Slavic peoples have many poetic legends about the sleepy kingdom, based mostly on the magical power of the sleepy grass. The ancestors firmly believed that if you put it under your pillow, you can see your destiny in dreams, and some may show supernatural abilities.
Sleep grass is a beautiful plant that will look great in any garden. Flowers are planted in groups on lawns, in mixed flower beds, in compositions, rockeries and rock gardens. Cutting this plant does not stand for long, but contemplating it in a flower bed is a great pleasure. It should be borne in mind that wild-growing specimens may not take root on the site, and adult plants are difficult to tolerate a transplant. Postrel seeds can be purchased at any store or ordered online.

This herb is rightfully considered not only the most beautiful, but also the most capricious. Many summer residents and flower growers who tried to grow it at home failed. For example, that the most "vulnerable spot" in the pampas grass is wintering in our Russian climate. But on the other hand, a beautiful appearance fully compensates for all the time spent on a capricious plant
