Garlic is not a very picky plant in terms of care and growing characteristics. Nevertheless, some attention and care for this vegetable crop is still worth showing. To get a high-quality and good harvest of garlic, it is not enough to apply fertilizer alone before planting a crop. You can compensate for the lack of nutritional components by carrying out feeding procedures. Both organics and minerals are perfect here

Fertilization of garlic with mineral components

It is easiest and most convenient to use a complex specialized fertilizer as a top dressing for garlic, which is suitable not only for garlic, but also for onions. It contains the necessary amount of ingredients such as phosphorus, potassium and nitrogen for the culture. It is interesting that this fertilizer can be used not only in an open, but also in a protected garden. With the correct introduction of funds, the summer resident can get excellent crop growth and an increase in resistance to bad weather and bad climate. Also, garlic will be much better at resisting pests and diseases. In addition, it will ripen much earlier and its palatability will become more favorable.

For a summer garlic culture, feeding is carried out once or twice during the growing season. As for the amount of fertilizer, five to ten grams of the product is enough for one square meter. A complex agent is introduced into the ground after watering has been carried out or even a little rain has passed. During feeding, fertilizer is evenly poured around the plant around the stem, after which it is slightly embedded inside the soil. Things are quite different with the winter garlic culture. It needs to be fed as soon as the initial shoots become visible. To do this, you should take fertilizers at the rate of ten to twenty grams per square meter of the area where the garlic is planted.

The same product can be used in a liquid consistency. For this purpose, one tablespoon of the prepared components is dissolved in a ten-liter container with water. Three liters of such a product are enough per square meter of the garden. You can also replace complex fertilizer as the first feeding procedure for a winter garlic culture with urea. Here, too, one tablespoon is dissolved in a ten-liter bucket of water. One ten-liter container is enough for five square meters of land. During the second feeding procedure, it is required to add two tablespoons of nitrophosphate to a bucket of water. This operation is carried out fourteen days after the first fertilization of the garlic. In order for the heads of the fruits of the garlic culture to form better, the third feeding procedure with superphosphate should also be carried out. Its dates fall at the end of the first summer month. For such purposes, it is necessary to add two tablespoons of the product to a ten-liter bucket of water. The solution itself is poured out in the amount of two liters per square meter.

Fertilizing garlic with organic ingredients

In order to feed winter garlic, adding a mullein solution to the soil in proportions of one to seven would be a good option. Such a mixture is perfect for watering after the snow melts and the formation of the first shoots. Like onions, garlic treats wood ash very well. To add it to the soil, a couple of times during the summer season the top layer of soil should be dug up in a circle of stems and covered with ash, after which it should be leveled again.

Experienced summer residents recommend fertilizing the garlic culture with a solution of chicken manure. Fresh ingredients must be mixed very thoroughly in water in a ratio of one to fifteen. It is not worth insisting on this remedy. It is necessary to apply it to the soil immediately. This will help prevent nitrogen loss. It is necessary to water the garlic culture with a watering can without a spray, but you should not get on the leaves. True, such feeding should be carried out with caution, since an overdose can provoke the formation of burns on the leaves or other damage. It is also worth remembering that using dung will make the garlic fruits softer and reduce the possibility of storing vegetables for a long time.

Foliar feeding

Foliar fertilizers are especially suitable during rainy and cold periods, since at such times the absorption of nutrients is difficult. As a sprinkling of garlic, you can use mineral mixtures and products. However, the concentration for foliar feeding should be slightly lower. The procedure is required in the morning or evening. In calm, but at the same time cloudy weather, you can feed garlic at any time of the day.
