Reproduction by layering

Propagation of peonies by layering, there are several options:

• simple;

• horizontal (Chinese method);

• air;

• vertical (Dalem method).

What is the methodology of each method, let's look at examples.

Simple abduction

In the middle lane in mid-May, before the buds appear, shoots are selected that are closer to the soil. The land around the bushes is loosened, rotted leaf compost or peat is introduced.

Small grooves are scratched at the bottom of the stem, treated with root. The second option, the shoot is pulled at the bottom with a copper wire with a diameter of 2-5 mm in several turns, squeezing the bark. The strapping delays the outflow of nutrients from the leaves, stimulates the formation of rudimentary roots.

The prepared branches are carefully, but tightly, pinned to the ground. A mound of fertile soil 15 cm high is poured on top. The upper part of the shoot is tied to a peg, giving the vertical direction of growth. The buds are removed so as not to waste energy on flowering.

The soil is kept moist throughout the season. Arrange irrigation grooves around the mound so as not to destroy the structure. The mound is shaded with non-woven material or mulched with sawdust, straw cutting. The shelter must be light, overheating of the soil is excluded, the sun's rays are reflected from the surface.

Shoots are dug up in September. With the formation of sufficiently powerful roots, the plant is cut off from the mother bush, transplanted to a new place. From one adult specimen, no more than 3 stems are rooted in this way, so as not to disturb the beauty of the bush.

In the case of a special plantation for mother plants, it is allowed to root half of the new shoots. The rest support the nutrition of the plant. Reception is used repeatedly on the same bushes no earlier than 2 years. The mother liquors will spend this time on restoring forces for normal life.

The simple method is suitable for all varieties of tree peony.

Chinese way

For the shrub form of the peony, the method of horizontal layering is acceptable. In early spring, before bud swelling or in the green cone phase. Choose bushes with powerful shoots last year.

Nitroammofosk is scattered over the surface, loosened up the soil around the bushes, covering the fertilizer. The bark is scratched along the entire length of the shoot from the underside. Processed with root powder. The base is easily pulled with copper wire. Dig a furrow 4 cm deep for each stem. Gently bend the branches, avoiding breakage and cracks. Pinned with a thick wire to the full length. The crown with the bud is removed.

Sprinkle with compost mixed with sand. Spill water until the soil is completely saturated. Young stems grow from each bud inside the groove, reaching a height of 15 cm, hilling is carried out at half the height. The procedure is repeated as the aerial part grows 3 times per season, increasing the size of the mound to 25 cm. Water the bushes in the intervals between the embankments so as not to blur the structure.

In the fall, the shoot with the roots is dug up, divided into parts. Each contains a piece of an old stem, a new shoot. Plants with a strong root system are planted in a permanent place. Weak specimens are sent for growing in a "school" for 1-2 years.

The first 2 winters require the shelter of the "young" with spruce branches with non-woven material on top.
