Garlic is small, but great strength is hidden in it! Its greatest value is in the healing power and rejuvenating effect on the human body. He is one of the leaders in the content of vitamin C, especially a lot of this useful element in young leaves. And what kind of conservation and marinade would do without its small teeth? Where cucumbers, tomatoes, zucchini grow, garlic will be required to prepare them for the winter. And it is important not only to be able to grow it, but also to collect it on time, and also to preserve it according to all the rules for future plantings
So that the garlic retains its keeping quality and presentation
It is impossible to be late in harvesting garlic. If such an oversight is allowed, the outer scales will begin to collapse. Because of this, the bulbs do not hold in one head, but crumble into separate cloves. At the same time, not only the presentation is lost, but such garlic will be stored much worse, quickly losing moisture and drying out. In addition, the garlic remaining in the beds, ripe, can simply start growing again, and then it will become completely unsuitable for storage.
The sequence of harvesting garlic from the beds
The first to remove the one-toothed bulbs from the beds. As a rule, this time comes in the last decade of July. Then the harvest of garlic is harvested, multiplied by the chives in the fall - the harvest period falls on the beginning of August. And last of all, garlic ripens, grown from cloves planted in the beds in spring - this time falls in mid-August.
Shooting and non-shooting varieties signal that garlic is ripe differently. For those who shoot, the cap cracks, and for those who do not shoot, the false stem turns yellow, dries and lays down. A common symptom for all forms is the termination of the formation of new leaves, yellowing and drying of the tops.
Features storage of bulbs and chives
The dug out bulbs are left to dry in the open air, having previously protected the covers with the bulbs with gauze caps. When the garlic dries, the aerial part is cut off so that the head has a neck no more than 5 cm in length.
Arrowing varieties with gauze protective caps are additionally left until the bulbs ripen in a dry, ventilated room. They should be covered with characteristic scales and make a rustling sound when vibrated.
The finished bulbs are sorted by size. During the calibration process, those that are at least 5 mm in diameter are left as planting material. The rest are discarded.
When planting with bulbs is planned to be carried out in the spring, they are left up to this point in covers, otherwise they will noticeably lose in size. In winter, they must be kept warm, at a temperature of about + 18 … + 20 ° C. If the temperature in the room goes lower, this negatively affects the planting material and reduces the future yield.
The spring form of garlic, which will be placed on the beds in the spring, on the contrary, is stored in cool conditions: from 0 to -3 ° C. The air humidity should be about 80% with good ventilation of the store.
If it was not possible to make podzimny planting of winter garlic, then until spring they are stored at a temperature of 0 ° C, and the humidity is maintained within 50-70%. Shooting garlic should not be kept warm, otherwise it will not form heads in the spring, although there will be a lot of greens.
At the same time, non-shooting garlic is kept warm - at room temperature. Then the spring garlic will form large heads. However, you need to be prepared for the fact that this significantly extends the growing time. Putting it in the cold 4-5 weeks before disembarking helps to speed up this process. In this case, the temperature is maintained within the range from + 1 ° С to -3 ° С.
