It is known that a house built of wood differs from the monolithic walls of city apartments - any vibration of the soil affects the structure as a whole. The mobility of the walls appears, which is reflected in the state of the doors and windows. We notice this in the spring, when the door locks do not open well due to distortions, cracks appear in the doorways, or, on the contrary, difficulties arise when opening and closing.

Casing technology - "skids"

To eliminate the pressure of the walls, experts use the "sled" method - this design is called the shedding cage. The technology consists in creating a ridge-like device in the vertical part of the window opening. The same groove is made on the inlay bar, which is put on the protruding part and is attached with a soft joint, without nails and screws.

The result is a groove-ridge sliding moment, which prevents the effect of wall distortions with a direct impact on the window frame. Such a system is especially relevant in newly built houses from raw materials.

The assembled box is fastened with self-tapping screws, the main thing here is to choose the correct length of the fasteners so that the screws do not penetrate the log crests, otherwise they will fix the backlash and the casing will not work (slip).

All gaps after the installation of the window are clogged with tow, after which a plastic window is installed according to the standard technology. To ensure tightness, it is carefully spilled with polyurethane foam. If the walls of a newly built house consist of raw material, then instead of foam, to close the gaps, you need to use strips wrapped in a thin layer of tow, which are alternately removed as the boards and beams dry out.

This technology provides for the installation of a removable casing, fixed on the windowsill with a compensation board. In a couple of years, when the house is completely dry, these zones are foamed and the platband is overhauled.

Installation into the walls of an old wooden house

Experience suggests that the sculpting technique is relevant not only for a newly built structure. It doesn't matter how old the house is: 5 or 25, the bottom line is that wood is a porous material that can absorb moisture, swells in rainy weather, changes its structure in drought and heat. Therefore, any wooden blockhouse transforms its volume during the year, sometimes increasing, then decreasing by several centimeters. Correct casing makes the window static, not affected by natural factors.

The owners of old buildings also have a second option: installation with gaps and plastic sealant. In any case, try not to buy standard sizes, but to order according to your individual parameters so that you do not have to increase or narrow the area of the window opening.
